Just put my car on Pistonheads and...

...within 45 minutes I've already had two calls. Both of them asked:

- what my last price was; and
- what size the engine is (this is listed in the ad anyway!)

Both spoke in an accent I can't quite place, but it is several timezones east of here.

I foolishly put my mobile number in the advert - now I'm guessing that I will be bombarded with nonsense from people at all hours.

I recently sold my old motorbike using Autotrader and eBay, and thought I'd give Pistonheads a go for the car - haven't sold a car for many a year. Regretting my decision already.

Has anyone else had similar experiences?

I had a few asian sounding chaps phone about my 306. "Whats your lowest price" and "How much tax" were the first and only questions. None of them came to view the car.

E90 325. Just had another call now - I'm going to have to change my mobile number after this!

Do they have Google alerts set up for Pistonheads or something similar? I guess I'm paying the price for being cheap and only paying £9.95.

Why not use PH Phonesafe?

This.

You get no end of calls, especially from asian people who try sell your car for you for a percentage. Also you will find ad's of your car on random sites you have never even been on.

Pistonheads is a very good site though, i have sold field bikes, a civic, 2 mini's and a mustang on there quite quickly.

If someone asks you what your lowest price is, use the OcUK classic of "Cars are prediscounted for your convenience" :D

I get fed up of phone calls asking what my lowest price is, now if they are foreign sounding and ask that I just put the phone down. Sounds awful but it's the truth no good has ever come from a Nigerian asking me what my lowest selling price is and then coming to buy it.

I had real trouble selling a Yaris on Ebay even though I had loads of luck selling others, stuck it on AT and in 2 hours someone put a deposit on it, my conclusion is you need to advertise it where the buyers look, i.e. a Yaris is broadly bought by sensible middle of the road people not interested in Ebay.

Same here last time i placed an ad.

I've no idea why people ring with absolutely zero interest in buying the car. I'm not even sure if you agreed to reduce the price they'd agree to actually turn up.

lol sounds like they are from my neck of the woods, and often dealers. I advertised my Range Rover last week and was getting calls all night with "last price?" and even "what car do you sell?".
Especially during Ramadan these guys become nocturnal, and its the month of motoring bargains, so i just had to turn my phone off. It sold the next day and I was so glad to remove the ad as soon as I had a deposit.

I have no time for people asking "last price" without even bothering to see the car.

Forunately I've only had one instance of this with my car which was one of those scam marketing companies "we've had a lot of interest in them megane sports", a quick 'not interested' had them hang up.

Unfortunately however is that it still hasn't sold, thought I was on the verge yesterday until the person who was super keen decided they weren't interested any more because of some stone chips, not really the sort of car to get hung up on because of that and is keenly priced anyway. Honestly thought it would be sold really quickly but it just hasn't.

I've got a car on there at the moment (a Mini One) - it's been on for 1 day and no calls yet (not even any nuisance ones!)

What are you replacing it with?
