Anyone been to Chernobyl/Pripyat?

I learnt a bit about it at school, is the worst nuclear disaster after all. Little shocked really that it wasn't covered at all at peoples schools

I Learned from CoD 4 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl. Would love to go one day but like said before, on my own with a tour guide.

Would love to go inside if it wasn't irradiated, no idea why but it's always fascinated me. Looks so creepy...

I watched a documentary about the Chernobyl incident a few years ago (think I was 15). Was part of some series of disaster documentaries on one of the terrestrial channels (BBC 2?). As interesting as it is, I'm not sure I'd want to have a mooch around there though :p (unless it was completely safe).

probably "days that shook the world" seems to be available to watch online at various different sights

Wait so the names of the STALKER games are actually based on real places. Brain farting everywhere right now.

Calm down I'm only 12.

Because I'm 12.

I remember first hearing about it on Newsround - lol

The above is a good start.

LOL at the thought of playing Cod4 and Stalker... THEN finding out the places are REAL.

Kind of like discovering Santa when your are 40 years old.

I always thought people kept well away from Chernobyl but then i've not seen any news about the place in a long time.

Watched a documentary a few months back called The Battle of Chernobyl - its in ten parts on Youtube - about 90 minutes in total.

I went last year and it was very very interesting

Did you have to take any iodine pills/protective clothing or anything?

As people have said they would like to go alone but companies only seem to go in groups.

I propose....

OcUK field day, lets go as a group :)

This is still on my "to do" list so will be reading with interest. I wonder if it's better to go in winter..?

I was not even 1 year old when Chernobyl went up. My parents told me many years later about it, and how the skies were turned orange.

i dont understand - to all these young ones on here (under 18) did you not get taught this at school even breifly??

I remember it coming up for a few lessons in GCSE's and that was all was needed, They must still teach this right? together with the JFK assassination and the english civil war.
