Anyhoo, in the game dominoes are blanks wildcards or simply zero?

Videojug seems to imply they're a wildcard but I don't believe this is correct!

My Grandad is no longer alive to ask, but from what he said to me back in my childhood I remember blanks being wildcards, much like blanks in Scrabble are.

blanks are wildcards, if i remember correctly, used to play with my granddad when i was 6 and 7.

EDIT: I'm not even sure of the rules any more, I bought a set not long ago and the 'rules' were basically 'match the spots... keep going until someone can't play'. I'm sure you have to bugger about with mates, adding the first and last numbers together in the line (say 3 at one end and 6 at the other = 9) and then you score points for how many 3s and 5s you can divide the sum of these numbers by. So in my example 3/5 = 3 points (3*3=9 / not divisible by 5 into an integer).

Am I wrong on this? I think I might be :S

I play in a league and a blank is just a blank. You use it the same as the others i.e. just match the dominoes, but they come in handy when it goes down to a count up.
