Hey guys, so been in this forums quite frequently recently with problems and advice, so here's another:

What's the best keyboard to get?

Logitech G19 vs Razer Blackwidow Elite gaming keyboard.

I've not really heard much bad from the G19 side of things, only is that it's basically a G15 with the LCD screen + a little bit of 'va va voom' added to it.

I've heard that there's a few things wrong with the Blackwidow, it's loud (because it's mechanical), it's got issues where you're pressing the wrong buttons at times due to keyboard placement and so on.

Anyone got experience with both and can offer advice?

Thanks.

Depends on what you want from your keyboard. If you're a gamer, as others have said, the MS X4 is good. Knowing now what I do about the Black Widow, I wouldn't (and don't) recommend it. Pressing the wrong buttons is just a matter of getting used to the layout, the real problem with the Black Widow is it only has 2 key rollover with an "optimised" gaming controller. 2KRO means that anymore than 2 simultaneous key presses (not including modifiers) causes the board to choke and key presses will be dropped/lost. The gaming optimised controller is to get around this. And despite this it's still finicky about it when talking to those that own one. Considering the price tag the Black Widow carries and not even being NKRO when it's aimed at gamers is a bit of a joke. Some people are also complaining that the keycaps wear very easily, which isn't surprising, especially on backlit keyboards where the keycaps are coated and the legends carved out of the coating. If you want keycaps to last, you want double shot injection moulded keycaps.

If I was gaming and I wanted a mechanical keyboard, I would probably go with the Steelseries. They're cheaper and have NKRO.

I mainly play games such as World of Warcraft, SC2, Modern Warefare, Black ops, etc, Bad company 2 and so on, games like that.

Money wise? I've got a few hundred quid spare right now, so money isn't that much of an interesting factor and I'm getting really bored and tired of my Lycosa, it's bugging, cuts out, having lots of problems with it.

I've looked at that MSX4 and it looks okay I guess? looks like it's got a good look to it, not sure if it's as good as it looks though.

The best thing about the X4 is the technology Microsoft used in it to overcome the 6 key rollover limits of the USB interface. Normally, if a keyboard is capable of NKRO (as many simultaneous key presses as you like), it is limited to 6KRO by the USB port (which as I mentioned earlier, means key strokes/presses will be dropped). Microsoft did a little jiggery pokery and the X4 is capable of over 20+ simultaneous key presses over the USB port.

Looks wise, I think it looks like complete ass. But the tech and software is really impressive. Can't grumble about that. Now if they made a mechanical keyboard with that same tech and software, it would be AWESOME.

Which is better a Microsoft Sidewinder X4 or a Logitech G110?

The G110 is a good keyboard, lots of macro keys, UBS hub and USB audio, so could save you some money on buying a sound card. It is a really good MMO keyboard and because it's Logitech, you know it is going to last. If you don't play RTS or MMO games, the X4 is the better choice.

I would say the X4. I might think it looks like ass, but it's marginally better looking than the G110. As for functionality, that boils down to what you need from your keyboard and how many macro keys and things you need. But the Logitech has the Logitech customer service behind it as well, should anything go wrong with it. The X4 has that awesome NKRO USB tech.

Well if you have money to spend then you may as well just get a mechanical keyboard. From what I've seen and read the Steel Series 6gv2 keyboard is good. I have a Qpad MK-80 mech. keyboard and it's also worth considering. I would have gone with the steel series but it didn't have backlit keys so chose the Qpad. It supports NKRO if you use the ps/2 port and 6KRO when using the USB adapter. It's great for typing too as it uses the tactile MX blue switches. However it makes a click sound every time you hit a key so it's not the quietest board out there.

Just got G510 and for wow its amazing built in display automatically works for all stats and cycling threw them and it gives notifications of private messages. The any color you want is also awesome.

There is also the Mionix Zibal 60, in the same vein as the XArmor. It uses black cherry keys like the Razor BlackWidow, so a fair bit more quiet, less tactile for typing, but smoother for gaming.

Oh, here we go...
