Hi, I hope someone can help and provide the settings for an Asus P5K combined with a Q9650 for potential overclocking. I am hoping to upgrade from a Q6600 currently clocked to 3.24ghz. Is the Q9650 a wise move?

Depends how much you can get the chip for tbh. You can get good clocks out of them that can easily reach 4Ghz, but new they are massively expensive.

I can point you in the right direction settings wise if you ever decide to go down that path, assuming the bios is similar to the one on my board. It's basically getting the PLL, FSB, NB, and core right.

Michaeljcox24 never oc-ed my 9650 past 4ghz, what settings you using for 4.2ghz and whats the vid of your cpu? we both have same motherboard btw. May have a play oc-ing this weekend again, changing the cooling tomorrow for the cpu so should give me more room to play with too. Btw all I changed to get mine to 4ghz stable was the core voltage and the FSB, I actually lowered the core v from what it was auto setting it too, it was running fine and cool just I wanted to reduce the core V to the lowest it would go and still remain stable. Can't remember the core voltage I set the computer is not in one piece at moment till the new cooler gets to me tomorrow. From what I remember my core v was very low and not far off from the vid of the chip which was low too to get 4ghz.

VID fpr chip = 1.2875

VCore for 4.2 = 1.3875 (LLC Enabled)

PLL = 1.56

FSB Termination = 1.3

NB = 1.26

Doesn't go any higher than this without HUGE increases in Vcore. I got a cpu-z validation @4.4 ish but it required 1.5 odd volts to even boot. Didn't try stability testing, not worth it.

Thanks for your replies,
Repyling to Michaeljcox24, I am not too bothered about price and as the Q9650 has 12mb of cache and has 1333fsb is should already out perform my Q6600. If i do go ahead i will certainly take up your offer to help. :)

Replying to Subliminal Aura, my mobo is an Asus P5K revision 1.02g that is all that is on the box and board.

Thought you had the same crappy motherboard :D Features - 0 but for overclocking it's pretty good.

Confused as to why you only managed 360Mhz FSB - I run a q9550 at safe volts @ 8.5 x 425Mhz = 3.6ghz

Well TBH I don't think so - How much will the q9650 cost ?

i5 2500k / mobo / RAM should set you back a mere 300-400 quid.
