Hey guys,

Got a 2nd hand Radeon 5830 today. I put it in and installed the latest drivers etc and it's doing this:

I'm running a [email protected], 4Gb ram. None of that is a problem normally though as I've been running on the integrated graphics for ages...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Jonathon

Hmm ok, well I think I may have hooked up the wrong power connected to it...I used the PCI-6 and PCI-8 connectors then read somewhere that that was wrong. Changed it to a 6 pin thing that came with the GPU but there are 8 slots holes for pins on the GPU...

I'd be surprised if the card was a bad one. The guy I bought it from on here is very reputable.

5830 should only need two PCI-E 6-pin connectors, and if your PSU have the right connectors, you shouldn't need to use the molex to PCI-E adapter/cable that comes with the card. If your PCI-E 8pin is a 6+2 connector, you should only connect the 6pin part and leave the +2pin hanging out.

this.

It certainly looks like dead VRAM.

doesn't matter how reputable the guy on here is, chances are it isn't his fault and you just got unlucky, maybe static killed the VRAM - you never know.

Sorry for wasting your times guys. I hooked it up to the PCI-E connectors again and it's working fantastically...don't know what happened! Cheers for your help :D
Good to hear it works out ok for you. I'm surprised that you can even power on your PC (let alone going into Windows and run Minecraft :P) without the right connectors connected :p
