Hey guys,

Any input appreciated, a colleague has asked for a new PC for her son to play games.

Price ~£500

The main parts of the one theyve been advised of by a local store is as follows:

Asus M4A78LT-M LE Mobo
AMD Athlon x2 250
4Gb DDR3 1600Mhz Reaper (seems a bit over the rest of the parts to me)
750 Seagate Barracuda
1GB 6770
64Bit Win7 HP

Only needs base unit, with a half decent Gfx card.
The CPU and ram on the one above seems a bit off for the price to me.
I'm sure a quad core would be doable in this price range.

Ive just built this system for a friend for dead on £450, not exactly top spec but sure is fast
phenom 555 (unlocked to quad) @4ghz
corsair vengeance blue 2x2gb
asus m4a88t-m
corsair cx600
xfx 6870
samsung dvd-rw drive
hyper 212 plus
nzxt gamma case
samsung f3 1tb
I didnt include operating system though since he already has one

Depending on what games are being played then OEM Windows is cheaper and the graphics card could be upgraded.

Also you could use a cheaper motherboard and HDD as that build needs to make room for a case, PSU and probably needs a DVD drive.

There is another option with an oem copy of windows
That gpu will tear the 460 to pieces
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/293?vs=313

My only worry is that the i3 would then bottleneck the GPU:/
I would like someone else's opinion on the mater
I think what we need here is Stulid :L

Her son seems to be leaning towards AMD at the moment am I right in thinking the x2 250's perform lesser than the i3-2100 ?
