Forza 4

Think i'm one of the rare people that likes the newer Hockenheim. Quite happy they've added it to the game.

I played 4 seasons of this game, in between I've played many more racing games and simulations, the other day someone fancied a go on the mountain pass track so I loaded it up. It was then that I noticed the floaty nature of the cars, there doesn't appear to be any roughness to the surface of the track, its very very smooth. I'd expect 'some' wobble from the camera to indicate the surface but nothing at all.

Add to that no sense of speed compared to other games, makes for not a very enjoyable game.

I just hope F4 has some better track mapping techniques.

I agree, it does need some improvements in the effects. Shift 2 has a great atmosphere from the in-car view, but doesn't have the physics or content to back it up. I'd take Forza any day of the week.

And are you saying that a fictional track is too smooth?

And as for sense of speed, the only thing it can add is motion blur. With games like GT5 and Forza, what you see is what you get.

No not just fictional tracks, real ones too. Some arcade racers even manage a better connected feel than Forza does.

As for the sense of speed, I think it's maybe the FOV being too high or something like that.

I understand your point of view, but getting too far towards shift2 and other more 'viscerally' slanted games (it sounds like this is what you are ultimately after) is not something most classic 'simulations' tend towards... It gets in the way of actually racing...

But, each to their own, I think they are trying to address it a little, and having some viscerality to it can be done without compromising too heavily in any direction.

THe 'floaty' feeling you are finding is just a personal thing, some people do have this disconnect when the track is too smooth, but lots of us don't notice it, we are trying to maximise corner speed etc, and find it feels very connected.. again each to their own. :)

haha, man im behind on my Forza, i was reading up on Forza 4 thinking wow, ill dig out my Forza 3 and give that a blast to get myself ready for it, only to discover that I have been living in a cave and only have Forza 2!!

so ill be using that to brush up on my driving skills as theres no point in me getting Forza 3 now if Forza 4 is due soon, right?

You can get it for around a tenner now, I'd say get it, honestly :)

As much as I love FM3, and that you could get the Ultimate edition for about a tenner, I would wait and get FM4.

Although there are some big improvements in other areas, I don't think that the gfx will look much different from FM3, so the step up from FM2 to FM4 will be a nice surprise for you.

If you are a Porsche fan I would buy FM3 though. They still haven't confirmed if there will be any in FM4.

I have to disagree with you.
Simply because FM4 has the biggest shift in graphics over 1-2, or even 2-3 yet seen.

You only have to look at the exta detailing, new lighting, new effects, animations of spoilers and enviroments. Then to take into account they at last have a decent cockpit viewpoint, a much further draw distance and finally doing all that maintaing 60fps with upto 2x the cars. There are quite a number of recent videos being posted and yesterdays new images on more active forums. Surprised here none of you lot seem to of updated this thread much.

As for Porsche their is more reason to believe it will be in the game than evidence to assume that it wont.

I'm really hoping they improve the Nurbrurgring, I'd like to see it the right length so at least the in game times can be compared to real life.

For FM3, the gfx engine was started from scratch. So although there is a new lighting system, it's still based on the FM3 engine.

I'm not saying it won't look better, but if he is only used to FM2 gfx, he is going to be amazed with FM4.

Are they still pushing the whole 60fps thing or are they sacrificing frame rate for detail?

Actually you pretty much did say that. "I don't think that the gfx will look much different from FM3" when clearly ibert already comparisons have been done by people and show quite a darn bit of difference and the new lighting is a vast improvement.

Personally Id say FM4 will do more visually/graphically over FM3 than FM1 on Xbox did for FM2 on Xbox 360.
