Spec me, cheap build

I'm moving to Uni in the next month so I'm looking to get myself a new PC for the experience. So it'll have to do the basic stuff like word processing and general browsing. Watching 1080p films would be great as well and it will need to have HDMI output. Gaming is not much of an issue as I have consoles (shuunnn :p) but to play some games would be great. The smaller the case the better really, I've been thinking possibly a Shuttle?
I don't need monitor or any peripherals, if an OS can be included would be good as well, if not I can get it cheap from the Uni anyway.

I have been out of the game with components for a while so I haven't a clue what the crack is these days so any input would be great :) I have a budget of £500, cannot go above this.

If you do a Computing related degree, you quite often get access to the Microsoft Download Network (MSDN). I was able to get Windows 7 Pro for my PC this way. I would suggest checking with your university to see if you get this as it could save you quite a few bob!

You might be able to play some new games at a low graphics quality, but it shouldn't too much of an issue playing older games at a higher quality.

It is quite an old SSD, which is why it is cheap. It is not the fastest, but is certainly a major step up from a traditional HDD.

It is a Vertex 2. These are not having any problems as they do not use the same controller. Besides, a Crucial would not fit in the budget.
 
Cheers guys swapped things around, does that cheaper case have space for an ATX PSU? Less money spent on this is more money to spend on drinking...I mean learning :p
 
yes, but its mounted at the top instead of the usual bottom mounted.
it has no cable management holes but has a removable hdd drive bays.

Sounds good to me, I can survive without cable management wholes, I'll just stock up on cable ties. Since dropping the case down to that one it has freed up a little bit of cash, would you recommend putting a graphics card in there as well or should the CPU one be suffiecient? :)
