Another laser eyeball surgery thread

Awesome stuff! Do you have a "grit" feeling in your eyes still and do they water?

I expected this & was surprised how little they watered afterwards, just felt sore like when you get something in your eye, fiddle about with it too much & make things worse.

Any tips for me?

Keep your eyes shut as much as possible afterwards to allow them to rest.

Afterwards when the nurse was telling me what to do with the eyedrops etc, she said the best thing for my eyes is to rest them now, so that's what I did, went straight home & stretched out on the sofa with some music on & kept them shut as much as possible, only opening them to apply the drops. Went to bed at 10pm wearing the googles they provided & when I awoke the discomfort was 90% gone.

Ah right that's good to know. Quite a few people said after the first day the discomfort (grit feeling/watering) gets reduced a lot which is comforting to hear!

Thanks :p

i'm thinking of getting laser eye surgery also, i've had a subscription for a few years now and don't really wear my glasses much but I don't think my eyesight has worsened because of this but the reason for wanting this is that I'm getting a bonus from work soon and was wondering if I would be 'suitable' to get the surgery done?

Also, have had a look around the various websites but there is so many options which is the best 'plan' or the best places to get it done?

Just to note that I am short sighted, if that makes a difference.

£2150 wow lol. Congrats tho, must feel epic! Do they say anything about potential deterioration over years/decades, or is it a completely permanent fix?

Still, definitely want to have this done as I don't tolerate contacts very well. Need to get out of university first :).

As a counter point to this awesome eye surgery experience I know 2 people who had it done and wished they had never bothered. One has continual problems with his cornea which is now scarred and affects his sight. The other was left with eyes that are too dry and don't self lubricate enough. He has to use eye drops constantly and for the forseeable future. Neither had instant results either, one of them had to take 2 weeks off work before he could see well enough to leave the house.

Like any operation, it can have potentially serious and life altering consequences.

Wow man sounds good :D i would love to get this done as im fed up of wearing glasses but as someone else said i get the uneasy feeling something is going to go wrong :/

I'm booked in for mine at the end of the month. I originally went for the mechanical flap but then opted for laser flap yesterday. I made the mistake of reading up and figured I'd rather pay out extra just incase.

I'm nervous and excited, can't wait to see the results.

Would you say you have better vision now than when you had your glasses on before the op?

I'm 34 & was told to expect to have to start wearing reading glasses when I get into my 40s as most people do.

Me too, I can't stand fiddling about with my eyes.

I'm sorry to hear your 2 friends have had problems, I did a quick google search to research some of my fears but quickly decided against reading about any "gone wrong" stories, there were tons! However more people complain about bad service than good & I'd made the decision to have the treatment so put my faith in the surgeon & his staff to do a good job.

The laser flap was included in my original quote but I was also told the surgeon may specify using the mechanical flap anyway as I have a scar inside my left eye (I never knew about this until their scans picked it up). The end result is the same so I opted to save £600 & undergo a longer recovery time.

The day after when I awoke "BANG" the whole bedroom was crystal clear, looking out the window I could see the bricks which make up the houses & the leaves on the trees, it was amazing.

Yes. The normal surgery would have given me the clarity of my own prescription but the Wavefront is much better, it's tailored to my own eyes & everything is crystal clear. I can't stop looking round at stuff :)

Cheers, you've reminded me to book an eye test.

I know mine have got worse over the last few years. Before you're able to get laser treatment you have to have a stable prescription for a year before they'll do it.
