**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Me too :D, worked so well in a TvP I played last night. 30 min game and he knew I was using them as I'd dropped them in his base twice. Then he tried to do a push and I scouted it and scooted round him with 10 or so blue flamers, and literally roasted every probe he had in his main, natural and 3rd expo. So much fun. We then traded armies but he rapidly ran out of minerals and it was gg soon after.

To be fair it is highly effective. T needs to do something like that if it's getting into the late game to counter the protoss death ball. In a head on fight you'll just straight up lose and P can remax much faster with their 20 odd warp gates.

copy cat players , have zero skill and watch far too much day9 and husky.

If you can copy a grand master level player to a grand master standard then you deserve to be in grand master. To copy top level players requires a lot of skill to pull off correctly.

Besides, the grand masters show that such tactics work, so why not use them?

Bah, @ Thomas dam you!

I cant get out of gold for the life of me! I fail badly to stupid all in's :(

But gratz on plat :D

Thanks :), don't lose hope. You'll make it out of gold I'm sure :).

but that's the problem, most people cant do that, and i would say that even if they did copy well they dont deserve to be in GM as they cant think outside of that copy mechanic.

That tactic is so well known now that you gotta be a bit stupid to not be able to see it coming a mile away, as zerg I can understand its pretty hard to stop but def not as P or T

Why is copying so bad though? To be honest, if you want to get better it's basically what you have to do.

I'm not saying low ranked players shouldn't experiment, it's always good to try something interesting, but all the top level tactics will have come out of 100s of custom games against numerous high ranked practice partners. Why not at least attempt to use what they've developed?

Furthermore, copying high ranked players is HARD. It doesn't matter if you can only copy it to a silver/gold standard, it is still extremely hard and time consuming. It is not simply a case of learning a food list, it takes a lot of time and a lot of refinement. Regardless of your league I have a lot of respect for people who put in the time and effort to do this.

Anyway, in other news is anyone interested in some custom games at some point? I want to get some 1v1 practice in off the ladder. Any race, preferably platinum/low diamond :). My ID is Morgan 587.

One day il make Plat lol

Yeah defo for new players 'copying' things from Day 9 / pro's is the way to go. I agree copying high level players can be super hard! Like i tried to copy Huks P v Z blink stalker build, but the fact my APM is like 50 - 70 and his is like 200 - 300 kinda makes a big difference :(

yeh Idra needs to go back to Korea tbh, even for a bit it will help him a lot. Playing with HuK and co will be great for him despite any differences they have had in the past.

mass hullicination is gods gift to protoss. they can easily be the turning point of the battle.

tho Idra leaving then was nothing compared to what he would do at a later MLG...trololl.

Voice Chat in game

Posted about this a few days ago but no one responded. Found this when googling but haven't tried it yet, in case it helps anyone (particularly Alex). Will give it a whirl myself when I get home:

What do I need to know about ports?
Anytime your computer receives incoming data, it is sent to a "port". Your computer has many ports that can receive data, and different activities will utilize different ports. StarCraft II uses TCP port number 1119 and 1120 to play and UDP ports 1119 and 6113 for in game Voice chat.

How are ports restricted when using a proxy, firewall, or router?
Most proxy servers, firewalls, and other Internet connection sharing methods can restrict port access. Your configuration may be restricting packets between you and "unknown sources". In this case an "unknown source" would be defined as any IP address that you have not initiated the contact with. Once you contact the IP address, your proxy and/or firewall should consider it "safe", or a "known source", since you initiated the contact.

Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Mac OS X ship with firewall services built into the operating system. While these services are disabled by default, if you have turned these services on, you may need to configure these services to allow the game to access the Internet.

Windows XP:

* Click on the Start button.
* Right click on My Network Places.
* Select Properties from the list.
* Click on the left of the screen where you see "Change Windows Firewall Settings"
* Click on the Exceptions tab.
* Click on the Add Port Button.
* Type in WoW in the Name box.
* Type in 1119 as the Port number.
* Make sure TCP is selected.
* Repeat the above steps and add 1119 and 6113 UDP if you wish to use the in game voice chat.
* Click OK.
* Repeat steps for port 1120

Windows Vista/Windows 7:

* Click on the Start button.
* Click on "Control Panel"
* On the Control Panel click "Security"
* On the Security panel click "Windows Firewall"
* Click on the link to "Change Settings"
* Click on the Exceptions tab.
* Click on the Add Port button.
* Type in WoW in the Name box.
* Type in 1119 as the Port number.
* Make sure TCP is selected.
* Repeat the above steps and add 1119 and 6113 UDP if you wish to use the in game voice chat.
* Click OK.
* Repeat steps for port 1120

I gave up trying to get the voice chat to work in SC2, i just use skype now :D the quality is really good to say its free.

I do the exact same haha. When I'm practising against my brother and mate, I love hear them acting all unbeatable, then my reapers sneak into their mineral line and then their reactions are priceless.
