From Dust - "spiritual heir" to Populous

Seems it does have always on DRM or is it just one time DRM? Many conflicting reports.

Edit: Ah I have the answer. They basically lied when saying you would only need a one time online check. What they actually meant was you need a one time online check every time you start the game. As if that's any different from always on DRM. Ubi ubi ubi.....toss...

The controls really are utter ****.

Does anyone else get the game freeze when you click at the bottom of the screen? It's doing my head in. It's unplayable to me with the mouse.

I use wasd to move around and qe to rotate, which makes life easier, bit I wish the cursor was independent of screen movement, or at least wasn't so heavily centered.

Only played a few levels last night, bit the one with the fire trees is the first that offers any challenge so hopefully it'll get better from there. It does feel a lot like a lazy port though.

The best thing is Ubisoft got everyone who was convinced by the advertising money already from record pre-orders & CBA to even open a section on the Steam forums for the game!

My only gripe is the controls being utter utter crap.
They could patch it easy, but if they will is another story.

I'm having to use my gamepad because M+K is too frustrating.

So far it's a great game crippled by terrible controls/technical issues. X360 pad is really the only reasonable way to play this on PC and that's just not good enough. FPS seems to be locked to 30 (physics issues with higher fps or just lazy?). The drawback with playing with a gamepad is that you only have two different camera views both of which aren't what you want. When playing with a mouse you have more control over the camera but the game is nearly unplayable that way due to how the mouse control is implemented. But still, I think it's a great game crippled by technical issues.

+1

The syncing of saved games is rather annoying, I had LFD2 downloading whilst I was playing, From dust crashes at the end due to it not being able to resync quick enough, worked on a retry but not a great system. It's not even as if it's steam cloud it's doing it to.

Game is OK though, I'd be raging if I'd paid £30 for it though.

Oh dear Ubisoft really are treating PC gamers with a lot of contempt here even though they claim From Dust set a pre-order record for them on PC it seems that is not enough to port it properly or be honest about the DRM restrictions (always on as well as Steam permanent connection!). Removing then re-adding the post about DRM is a very naughty practice indeed designed to mislead PC gamers obviously...........

Pirates don't even need even need to activate it, Just register an account for save files and play offline. Customers get shafted and the pirates don't well done ubisoft!

I think on the basis that Ubi stated it could be played offline (offline mode in steam) which was a blatant lie - anyone who has bought this could push for a refund on steam. May or may not work.

Edit: Having read some of the comments in the links above, it seems some people have already tried and successfully received refunds through steam.
