Aftermarket cooler for Asus HD6850

The Setsugen 2 is compatible but you'll need something to cool the VRM. 6850 is tricky as it's not top end and therefore doesn't attract that many solutions.

Accelero Twin Turbo Pro is apparently compatible, just ordered one for my 6870 as the stock cooler is omgwtfloud.

let me know how you get on with this cooler.

your right about the fan being loud :)

ill do this to mine once i see someone else get that cooler :)

Can these aftermarket fans ever connect directly to the card fan connector?

I see the Setsugen has an external fan controller which takes up a pci slot. Not exactly ideal.

Mine does (Thermalright Shaman) but I had to solder and create the wiring myself. The Arctic Accelero does, or at least the Xtreme does, I'm not sure of the Twin Turbo.

Depending on how the Setsugen fan controller is wired it may be possible to hook it up to at least the motherboard or a fan controller.

Most graphics card fan controllers are PWM based so you'd need a PWM fan to work off the signal, or use a PWM to DC converter circuit.

Will do, had to read up a lot to make sure it would fit as i have the xfx black edition. from what ive seen, it works fantastically, not bad for 20 quid :)

i haven't seen it that cheap.

would i need to buy the vrm cooling kit ?

Arctic Cooling VR001 RAM & Voltage Regulator Heatsink Set for Accelero

Looks like the Twin Turbo does indeed have the fan controlled by the graphics card PWM. It also comes with adaptors for PSU running at different voltages too.

Shame it's three slots really from the OPs point of view.

I may be way off here but doesn't the Prolimatech MK-13 support two slot spacing when the fans are placed in the horizontal plane?

Again expensive and you have to supply your own fans. -- £40 each.

The cooler comes with ram and vrm heatsinks, although because of the difference between the reference card and ones used by XFX ect, i'd do a bit a digging just to make sure the sinks do actually fit your card :)

Looks like it's just too big. The card + Asus cooler is about 38.5mm and the MK-13 is 43.5mm excluding the card
Something like that would be ideal though with top mounted fan.

Thanks for the suggestion

Looks like this might be the only option. How would you suggest cooling the VRM's? I probably won't be able to fit a side case fan because the heatsink is already so high.

I'm looking for an aftermarket cooler that won't take up more than 2 slots including the card.

This one looks like it might fit but not sure if it supports the 6850

Are there any others?

Thanks :)

I've got this cooler and it's really good. If it's turned down it's very quiet but still cools well. If it's turned up the cooling is superb. Got my card massively overclocked and it bearly even breaks a sweat, even in Furmark!
