hi all

probably been asked many times before..

purchased a car today and the tax on it runs out at end of of the month

i pretty much doubt the tax renewal form will make get posted to me before 31st August so how do i go about getting tax on the car?

i have the green new owners bit and seller is going to send off the v5 tomorrow ad i also have the tax renewal form that the seller received in the post if that helps?

Thanks

In my experience the green slip is ok with some post offices and not others - which is the way it should be done, I am not sure.

I think with the green slip, renewal reminder and an MOT certificate you'll be fine.

The green slip is for anything you need to do until the new V5C arrives - including taxing the car over the counter. Some post offices are being very naughty if they aren't letting you use the green slip to tax a newly acquired car!

I think you'll need proof of insurance as well as the MOT and V5 new keeper slip. I'll remind you that you'll need to go to a crown PO. I recently went through the same problem, getting Admiral to send me an electronic copy of my proof of insurance was a rigmarole.

e: This page makes it sound like you don't need the proof of insurance, but could have sworn I read a different page that said it was required. The wife ultimately got the disc so I could be mistaken as to which docs got used.

e2: ah, difference was I didn't have the reminder.
