Banksy

Does our society really hold Banksy in such regard that he's allowed to stick whatever he wants wherever he wants, or am I just reading too far in to that statement? :p

I thought the same to be honest. I don't rate him highly, some of his concepts are interesting, but it seems like if they had known it was Banksy, it would have been okay.

Does anyone actually know who he is yet? Or is it still a mystery?

Surely his Mum must've let it slip at a dinner party after one too many vinos or something...

I think Banksy is given a bit of a free pass in a no harm, no foul kind of way.

Watched an interesting documentary on Graffiti/Street Art on C4 last week in which Banksy and King Robbo were the main feature (and their personal war).
Turns out that much of Banksy's work is "heavily influenced" (but updated a bit) by a French Street Artist from the 80's called Blek Le Rat.

Used to think, like many people, that Banksy was pretty awesomes, but now, not so much.
I also think it's hilarious how his work is protected whereas other work that is deemed "Graffiti" is removed.

It's only "protected" because a large enough proportion of the public like it. If the councils removed all his work, people would probably be quite cross.

guess who directed that one?!

Actually I wasn't. This was a documentary (not a film/documentary), not sure who made it.

I did watch Exit Through the Gift Shop too however (don't recall King Robbo being mentioned in it at all, for obvious directorial reasons), that French "filmmaker" was a certifiable nutjob. :D

apologies then, saw exit through the gift shop was on c4 the other night and joined the dots :o

The sign, which said: "Welcome to the West Country, please don't laugh at our accent" was torn down by officers.

There is quite a few people of a certain age in Swindon and Bristol who know exactly who Banksy is.

Lol swindon, this is all we have which is some lame water fountain they put in the centre. Apparently on the first day some homeless guy urinated in it and they had to wash it out also some kids put washing liquid in it and it got foamed up completely.

I was referring to people who knew him socially, (and all the work that got painted over or removed from places such as the canal behind Albion Street and the alleys in Fleet St, along with stuff by TCM, MAC, SHOK, and others...) nothing more
