Hey,

I know this thread has the potential to go down like a bomber over Berlin given im asking about a Vauxhall in this forum but i was wondering if anyone had any opinions on the Vectra VXR from experience?

For my sins, its a car a really like the look of but in terms of buying and running costs what is it like in comparison to other performance cars of a similar nature?

Mondeo ST220 is the better car, but the Vextra is still decent, if you like it go for it, ignore the video of top gear because you will never ever drive like that on public roads.

I will admit, when top gear get a FWD car that you or I would say "tends to understeer", they wind the lock on without a thought for weight transfer and boot it...

Edit:
It's all very well having driver aids to fix that, but have you driven a car quickly with the brakes jabbing at all the wheels? It tidies it up but it's far from a pleasant experience.

EVO mag did an article on it, against a Subaru Impreza/Mitsubishi Evo and a 330i, they actually quite liked it and where genuinely surprised by it's half decent real world handling..

But it isn't perfect.. MrLOL had one, modded it and had a few issues, but he didn't understeer into any ditches IIRC..

If the TG car had IDS+ (Active damping) and disabled that in their fuse pulling antics, then it would also make it easy to make it behave that badly, the IDS+ alters damping on the fly to help weight transfer etc, it can't make it a hyper car or even top of the tree super saloon, but it can sharpen it up nicely and give it a little bit more finesse..

I drive a fairly quick astra turbo with esp and tc. if i go for a hoon i switch it all off other than abs. i don't mind oversteer at al.

i aslo have a corsa b stripped out and fitted with coil overs and rear disc conversion for track and autosprints. no aids here :) old skool.

i know it help but to be fair all that video shows is booting it with full lock. hell even my 110bhp corsa would do that :D

Ok. Thanks for the opinions so far, much appreciated. Im kinda dropping facts in as i go along and i appreciate thats arsey but i wanted an unbiased view on the car before i incriminated myself further!!

If a vxr is about £8-10k and thats the budget what matches or beats in in a similar category?

Also at similar performance and running costs (and price) what 3 doors make good alternatives?

I appreciate that this is very vague so far.
