A very boring thread; water bills

Me and a friend have just moved into a new flat (2 bedroom, in brighton) and we have just received our water bill. Currently our unmetered bill is £208.26 for the period 30 jun to 31 march next year. This seemed like a lot so i phoned them and asked if we could have a meter installed, as we honestly don't use much water. We were then told that a metered bill would likely be more expensive than this figure. Can anyone offer some advice, is what they've told us true? and is this a reasonable amount to charge us?

I'm aware this thread qualifies for most boring thread of the year, so here's an easter egg:

is it really cheap? to be honest i have no idea. It's just everyone i've spoken to about it is telling me they're paying less lol.

"the rateable value for your property is £107" ?

I swapped to a meter last year as my yearly charge was about £450 and I live on my own so don't use much water. Since moving to the meter I've used about £15 a month.

i am on a meter, in a 4 bed house with 4 kids and i pay around £30-£35 a month :(
£208 / 9 months = £23 per month for a 2 bed flat sounds about right.
also afaik they add the price of installing the meter to the cost per unit of water, so it will get more expensive for a while (but i may be wrong)

Are you saying your annual water bill is 200 quid? I'm not seeing the problem here?

Apart from your maths :p

But seriously, I shouldn't think there would be much difference between that cost and a metered one for the 2 of you.

As said, that's cheap, my bill was around £650 for a year non metered, I soon got a meter put in and is now around £300-£350 a year now

That is cheap.

People moan about water prices but tbh stop and think what you're getting and it's not bad at all.

Most are happy to wee up the wall what they would pay for water for a year on booze and fags for a month.

Water is a precious commodity that is very much taken for granted.

It requires a lot of work to make it so that when you turn that tap on you get drinkable water available with little to no hassle.

When I moved in to a shared house, the first few months we paid £35 a month (between 4 of us), that's because the previous tenants were using a lot of water, after 6 months they reduced it to £10 a month because we were overcharged a lot. After 12 months when we moved out we have got £80 back, not sure how much we paid for the year exactly I reckon it was around £200.
