"Found" footage style movies...

Might be worth checking out Marble Hornets on Youtube too. It's pretty low budget but some good scares in there. Best enjoyed with headphones on I think.

That Marble Hornets stuff seems to go on forever. Can't believe I've never seen anything about it before. Is it basically a TV series put out on the net? Because people are saying it has a second series coming out...

Marble Hornets, youtube but one of the scariest and most immersive series of videos I've ever seen.
TribeTwelve aswell at that, both about Slender Man so :3

Marblehornets was created as a youtube series about Slender Man, second series is currently in progress.

So, obviously it's fictional, but is a network behind it? Or is it a few guys getting together for lulz that turned out to be a hit?

Lake Mungo was in your list OP and it probably just isn't quite "that", its not wholly within the "found" footage style.

Instead the whole thing is envisoned as a documentary, heck, if you didn't know otherwise it could easily be some C4 investigative documentary.

An ok movie but certinaly nothing special.

:p Its one of the worst things I have ever watched. It's so scripted it doesn't flow right and most of the time you either get shots of the ground or some trees.

The latter, pretty much.

Basically started out as a series of photoshops on SomethingAwful of a character called Slenderman. More and more people started adding backstory to the character and eventually someone posted a link to the first YouTube vid.

Cannibal Holocaust is the most obvious one I can think of other than Cloverfield, but the former is just very disturbing so I couldn't recommend a watch.

Interesting, thanks.

I watched Rec 2 again last night and my opinion has completely changed, maybe I wasn't in the right mood to enjoy it the first time around. It's easily as good as the first and I eagerly await Genesis and Apocalypse.

I didn't really like REC, is REC 2 just more of the same?

Expands a little more on what the "virus" is.

I really disliked the american remake of Rec...Quarantine I think it's called, as they dumbed it down to a pure virus outbreak, whereas in Rec it's actually a "possession virus" if i've watched it correctly, those infected aren't just mindless zombies but actually possessed by something.

I watched [Rec] because of seeing it here, and hearing about it before and you guys seem to love it.
Cant for the life of me work out why, it was the biggest pile of amateur corny turd I'd ever witnessed, and no point was it scary and just seemed like a huge badly done dawn of the dead ripoff.
What am I missing.

Which [REC] did you watch? I think there are two versions - a Spanish one with a hot reporter and a Hollywood remake. I could be wrong - all from distant memory.

The american remake is called Quarantine and it's virtually a scene for scene, word for word remake except they copout of the whole "possession virus" scenario and it just becames a random zombie virus.

Everything, it would appear. :p

It's well made, frenetic, frightening, violent, tense and the finale is pant-staining. The screeching of the Madeiros girl is bad enough without it swinging a hammer around!

Still, horses for courses. :)

I like this kind of film too, REC 1+2 were great, as was PA 1+2.

Cant wait for Apollo 18 and PA 3, both should be good! :)
