Playon Gui2.0 - *NEW* FW v7.4.3.r3966

I have my mem stick at the ready, thanks holwill. I'll give it a go in the morning. I can always flash back but I'm interested to see what it looks like. All I ever wanted was the ability to store and show my music and film folders on the HDD of the box. the rest is a bonus but poor old ACRyan can't even get that right...

I read that you can "create" your own folder structure which is what GUI 2.0 should allow on the PlayOn. Does the mede8er just recreate the file structure already on the HDD or do you have to do it yourself ? All my films are split between various, genre, named folders on the HDD

Also will it accept my Thumbgen created covers etc that are in each films own folder ?

Sorry for all the questions...I should just give it a go I know....

Yes it shows your folders however you have set them up, you basically browse to the folder you want on the videowall via the file manager, be it samba/nfs/usb/internal and then press the menu button, choose to add it to the videowall and all you have to do then is once in the videowall is assign it a genre icon.

It will use your Thumbgen images, but you will have to rename them to about.jpg and it will use your folder.jpg for the cover although there is a size limitation, they must be in the region of H278xW185. The resize tool I use is at the bottom of the page under tools.

Also I would recommend using the shizzle V2 mod HD audio or No HD audio depending on how you make your connections.

The FW collection has breathed life in to a lot of PlayOn's that people were very disappointed with! I hope it gives you what you wanted from it.

I had got used to the old ACRyan GUI but for the rest of the family accessing films became a chore and too much hard work. Not the way it should be of course....
 
I'm gobsmacked.

That is what a GUI should be...everything appears to work fine right away. Just created my links to the Video Wall from the folders. Superb...and a great job. Many thanks again....and again. Just got to work out how to put icons into the main folders I've linked to on the Videowall and I'm away....:D
 
One quick question...

On the PlayOn firmware there was a 1-2 second lag when playing MP3 files at the beginning so you missed the first note or lyric. The GUI2.0 on the 7.4.xx r3966 fixed that but its back on the Media8er firmware. Not a show stopper by any means but are there any updates or fixes planned ?

Mede8er FW is based on SDK3, GUI 2 is SDK4, as far as I know Mede8er have not announced any SDK4 FW's for Med400/500X only X2 boxes. So at the moment it is a waiting game.
 
That explains it then. No problem...the delay is a bit less than on the AcRyan for some reason and is something I can put up with as it doesn't really spoil anything. The rest of it is quite superb. Anyone thinking of doing this should go ahead. The difference in performance of the Play!On is significant.

Does that mean than I can just download updates from Mede8er or just the updates as they come out from the people who supplied these ?
 
I will compile an updated FW if Mede8er release a newer SDK3 version or if Shizzl updates his Mod, however if they release a SDK4 update, I would have to wait till someone unlocks the "dvd player and Install_a" part of the FW.
 
Fair enough...I'm sure others are appreciative of the efforts that are put in anyway. I sure am. You were right in an earlier post about the mod breathing new life into the PlayOn!.....its like having a media player......that actually works. Loving the speed of selections and that Videowall is a winner !:D

My faffing side has caused me to cave and I've installed the new AC Ryan F/W. (v7.4.6.r5440)

No major problems to report and all seems to be working ok.

Got my shares mapped to folders on a USB stick using the network mount start-up script kicking around on the forums. This causes the box to think the files are local so indexing works on the media on my Server which is handy.

I have to say the shortcuts section is certainly a step in the right direction with my only gripe being that the section is down towards the bottom of the list when realistically it should be at the top :p
 
Im still trying to figure out why, after updating to the latest firmware my WMV files wont play on my playon mini...everything else works and tbh i cant be arsed to re-encode all my WMV files into other formats as its too time consuming.

Anyone have any ideas as to why WMV files wont play nice??...not all of them just a certain few that wont play....so much for this damn media player playing anything you throw at it lol...originally i thought it maybe my ext hd causing issues but transferred the files to my synology box and same problem...just will not play them:confused:
