Hi Guys,

I'm currently trying to make a decision between two 8GB kits both are the same price and the only difference I can see is the voltage between the two, but I know you guys know the real difference and can point me in the right direction

These are the two kits

Corsair CMX8GX3M2A1600C9 DDR3 XMS3 - http://www.corsair.com/cmx8gx3m2a1600c9.html

Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 DDR3 Vengeance - http://www.corsair.com/vengeance-8gb-dual-channel-ddr3-memory-kit-cmz8gx3m2a1600c9.html

Or maybe you can point me towards an even better 8GB kit around the 50 pound mark

Thanks

Well the XMS3 will work at 1.5V also, the main difference is as simple as the height.

If you have a big heatsink that covers the first ram slot, then the XMS3 has a better chance of fitting under the metal work.

If you're buying from OcUk before Wednesday morning then this is the kit to get if you want RAM with low profile heat spreaders:

Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

The Corsair Vengeance Blue is currently the same price but has the larger heat spreaders which may interfere with large coolers as stulid said.

Can you possibly tell me why these are better? The timings seem to be a little more lax on these is it just better quality?

I didn't say they're better.

I said they're the ones to get if you want low profile heat spreaders to avoid conflicts with the larger CPU coolers.

It's a no brainer between the Kingston HyperX and the Corsair XMS3 at the current price.

£47.99 gets you 8GB of HyperX with 9-9-9-27 timings and £67.99 gets you 8GB of XMS3 with 9-9-9-24 timings. In real world usage you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

The Corsair Vengeance Blue, at £47.99 for 8GB, is just as valid a choice as the Kingston HyperX as long as the tall heat spreaders won't interfere with whatever CPU cooler you have.

Based on what proof ?

I have 16GB XMS3 CL9 1333mhz and 16GB Kingston Value CL9 1333Mhz and lastly 8GB Crucial BallistiX CL4 800Mhz (DDR2).
When the memory works - it works.

Based on the hundreds/thousands of systems I've configured, tested and shipped with both Kingston and Corsair memory.
As you say, when it works it works, currently less Kingston tends to fail out of the box and over time than Corsair. I've also had issues with Vengeance affecting overclock stability, where the system works fine at stock but not overclocked - changed the memory to Kingston, same settings, 100% stable.
Not saying Corsair memory is unreliable, just that at the minute Kingston is more reliable based on my experience.

I've just bought an 8gb kit of this Vengeance RAM, I can get it to work at standard clocks and not on its XMP profile settings.
I say cant get it to work, it works, but its unstable.
