My August Woes ....

Yeah I can sympathise with that I was in for 7 days before they could operate it was a nightmare! Oh well ...

Sounds like it! Seems the swelling thing is quite common with ankle breaks but the thought of waiting around so long, I would rather go home and come back for the op.

Ouch! GL with the recovery.

I couldn't extend my fingers for a couple of weeks after having a splint on my hand after a tendon repair. Was really shocking when they removed it and my fingers just wouldn't move no matter how hard i tried.

and how are things with the finger now? how long did it take to get back to normal?

It took about 2 weeks to get full movement back in my hand. Quite lucky really as tendon repairs can often lead to reduced movement, due to the scaring around the repair.

I also was quite depressed after I got back home after 5 days in hospital. I think its quite normal and mine went away after a few days. Seemed really strange not being offered a cup of coffee by a cute nurse several times a day :D.

Christ you sound like an ungrateful ****. If the ankle was too swollen for surgery then it was too swollen. Do you think the Docs want to keep patients like you there for fun?!!

In addition, I find it very hard to believe they gave you EIGHT X-Rays just to find a double break.

Be grateful that you are not one of the old people ****ing themselves in their beds. You have arms and legs ffs, which is more than some people.

God, how old ARE you? You sound like a whiney American kid, who's moaning cos his daddy got him the "wrong" BMW for his birthday.

you sound worse than OP , who doesn't seem all that bad and is obviously a bit down due to being stuck sitting on his ass

Why must you insist on trying to sound like a big man who knows best?

Long Story short...

Went skating.
Broke ankle
In a lot of pain
Missed holiday
Still got job

Hmmm, that's nothing in the grand scheme of things. Your ankle will heal, you do some physiotherapy at the end etc, go back to work and this will just be a blip.

Funnily enough I think I was about the same age when I injured myself and decided that it was time to hang the skateboard up.

Mine was also a pathetic slam, just dropped in lost the board somehow. Landed on my wrist with weight on top. Next day at work I had to leave to go to hospital as it had swollen and I was unable to work for nearly 2 weeks.

Just one of the risks that were acceptable in our youth when we didn't have responsibility's.

At least you have your woman (bet she is thinking "Told you!" :p ) and a new job to look forward to mate :)

Aww diddums.

What about the poor incontinent old people waiting to die on the ward?

Jees, I cant stand folk who dont know how good they've got it.

Broken ankle = not the end of life as we know it.

Imagine what its like for our soldiers coming back with no legs from a pointless war.

Now THATS something to be down about.

Agreed, his work is fine and understanding and he still has his fiance, although if she saw this thread she might dump him for a real man... !

Wow just wow. Not ungrateful in the slightest. I never said I didn't agree with the doctors choice to hold back on the operation, just merely explained that it was not a nice experience to have to sit through. I also never blamed the old people for dedicating in the beds, as I knew they could not help it, but again its still not nice to sit through.

I can tell you one thing though, I am grateful for not being a bitter **** like you.
;)

Yeah very thankful for my misses and out come over all. I know all of my woes are short term. 100 percent giving up the board now though.

You start to sympathise with the topic creater at first even though he is a SkateBoarder but then he kind of lets himself down when he does that later bit about the Hospital.:D

Glad it worked out for him in the end though.

Sorry to hear all this but Im gonna be honest - your fiancee was right to express concern about goin to an activity with a high chance of injury just before a vacation. I side with her on that sorry!

Applies to everyone of course...if youre due to do something big...big interview, vacation whatever....manage your risk and dont do these activities!

Hope you heal up quick..I think you learnt your lesson and the day will come where the two of you will look back at this and laugh...she will give you crap for it for the rest of your life btw :)

You've had a worse time than me.
I got dislocated my elbow drunk, and had to cancel all my sports and driving lessons, but got it out of cast early so I could still go on holiday and have a great time. Reading your story, I count myself lucky :p still not fully healed though, going to try swimming tomorrow and see how it goes.

Also to that guy who complained at 8 X-rays? I had 2 before my arm was put back in place, and 2 afterwards, would have been more if something had broken, and I imagine more again considering the ankle is a more complicated joint than the elbow, so yeah 8 sounds about right.

Im not bitter about anything, just weedy/needy and pathetic people irritate me!

When I unfortunately spent some time in hospital, I had several people DIE next to me. I didnt start crying about it though, just made me grateful to be alive and have a life.

:)

I honestly thought you were about 16 or so, then I noticed you're actually 24. You should know better by now ffs.
