Ok been offered a Megan Coupe 2.0 16v in yellow X reg for £800 from a lady at work.

Basically she had the car since new, been garaged has 48k on the clock
full years MOT & 6 months tax, recent timing belt fitted.

I've seen the car and the bodywork, paint & interior are in perfect condition
the car been well looked after inc full service history, plus all the electrics work.

Now the reason she getting shut is because they just got a brand new Golf & also have a Grande Punto, so the Megan taking up space now.

So what do you think worth buying or not?

Its not a bad car for £800. Same engine as the Clio Williams IIRC. Plus you have an MOT for a year and tax. If its been recently serviced and has good tyres all round it will make a nice little car. Offer her £600. Its still a 10 year old Renault so dont expect it to be 100% reliable. Especially when it comes to the electrics.

Do the electric rear 1/4 windows still work?

Simple fix if they dont.

If this is the 2.0 IDE engine then do not bother. They are a high pressure engine similar to some diesels and have the same expensive fuel pumps. They also have two sensors which control the fuel, when they go wrong (and they will) the car will cut out when it gets hot.

The fault can be fixed by replacing the sensor but I have heard Renault have stopped making them and therefore demand is high.

I owned one for 11 months and 19000 miles, had 3 sensors from Renault.

X plate should be a phase 2 so wont be the F7R engine which was similar to the one used in the Willliams.

Reason im thinking of getting this car is on a whim i bought a kia mentor because it was cheap, im no car fanatic so anything will do lol.

Now the car itself isn't bad everything works, it's comfy and quiet basically a boring drive, but due to it not being very popular parts are expensive, ie i had an o2 sensor fail, couldn't get hold of one cheap so had pay kia for it, basically a warning for the future if anything else goes wrong it not gonna be cheap to sort, as im gonna have to go though Kia for any parts.

So thinking of getting shut now, before anything major goes wrong, and getting something with abit more grunt plus part's that are easier to get hold off, should anything go wrong.

oi daveski theres nothing wrong with the IDE :P mines still sweet as a nut ( fingers crossed )

Check the engine in the Megane, if its the IDE then parts will not be easy to get hold of! Oh and Mikey how many miles have you done in yours? :P

Not yet :p

Its almost certainly an IDE on an X plate, don't think the VVT turned up until very late in its life.

I am incredibly biased but the F7R is the one you want. Same engine as they popped into the Sport Spider, more torque than the F7R in the Clio Williams. Rather good on fuel too should you chose to drive like a granny. Up until a week or so I have had zero issues in the 3 years I have owned mine. Rolled onto 85,000 miles & the headgasket has gone :(

sounds like a bargain to be honest, a one owner car with a years mot and history.

I've had the misfortune of driving a kia mentor, the megane should be a fair bit better. :D

It does sounds like a fair deal. Till you have to queue in traffic or something and you go to pull away and the engine cuts out. Or maybe you're driving along on the outside of a dual carriage way at 70mph and the engine cuts out.

I know there are some people who have owned an IDE engined car and not had any problems but the vast majority of people do and having owned one I would buy something else.

OP u should sign up too a couple of renault forums, and see the never ending list of problems with them
