*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

I'm in a guild with RL friends. We made it as soon as you could make guilds. As far as I know, for a chance to be invited to the guild testing beta, you need 10 or more people in your guild.

I never got a personal invite sadly, I signed up on day 1 they announced beta testing. I'm hoping I get in with this guild beta thingy :)

I guess asking for some help to get into the beta is now pointless as some people have abused the kindness of others. Still, if anyone can, I would love the chance to get in and be eternally grateful to you (yes I'm desperate!!!). Been signed up since 2008 and still no sign of invite so have lost just about all hope!

Cannot wait for this game although I'm really not expecting it to be earth shatteringly good. For me, they should have taken the approach that ArenaNet have with GW2 by trying to take the MMO genre forward in gameplay terms as well as story. Ultimately, I think this could be their downfall long term coupled with the fact that GW2 will be subscription free. Still excited though!

The easiest way to increase your chances of getting into beta is to sign up to there site with multiple different email addresses registered to different home addresses.

For example i've done both my parents and my partners parents, my sister and my partners brother and my partner at uni and at home.

So all in all i've now registered 10 different accounts ;)

I really want to know what the game will be like outside of raiding and pvp at endgame. The thing i hated about wow but still ended up playing for ages, was the fact there was nothing really fun to do out side of them 2 options. Only time wow had semi fun stuff to do outside of raiding and pvp was the seasonal event crap, and even that got boring fast because it was the same recycled content every year. Would love a mmo like SWTOR to make fun monthly events or something to keep things fresh. I just don't want to reach endgame and end up standing around in a main city until i get a group to grind a dungeon or pvp through out my playtime.

WoW is a huge game but its massively recycled. All nice area's barely get used once you reach end game, and that sucks. I want a good reason to go back to the old nice area's once i reach endgame instead of standing around in a main city waiting for something to happen, i hope Bioware offers a different experience to how Blizzard treat endgame players.

If im wrong, tell me otherwise, but the only thing i see SWTOR offers so far WoW has already done. That being said im still looking forward to it as its Star Wars. :p

Well if that post doesn't get reported then we know who has been reporting everybody else...

Another option you've got is to play through the storylines. Questing feels a lot more like playing Dragon Age than it does WoW, even though the actual quest objectives are very similar.
Aside from playing through the story...I guess you could do some space combat... :p

Between this and the copious amounts of butt kissing going on, it's amazing what people will do to get in to the BETA. :D

Huttball? Jesus. Whoever thought it was a good idea to have Jedi and Sith have a nice little game of catch together should be shot in the face. I bet that they quite probably have the world's largest collection of Jar Jar Binks dolls too...

Over-reaction much? I'm not sure what video you have seen of it but every video I have watched on Huttball there has plenty of explosions and combat, not really a "nice little game of catch" is it?

No, but it's a bit cringe-inducing if you're trying to stay faithful to the lore in any way at all.

I can just hear yoda now - "Tearing the galaxy apart, this conflict is. Settle it all with a friendly game of huttball, we should!"

"Slide a lightsaber through Skywalker if you get a chance in all the confustion, eh Obi Wan? His whining is doing my head in."

I know SWTOR has similarities to WoW but the thing thats really got me interested is the fact that each class has a Bioware storyline which plays out like Mass Effect but in an MMO setting. If its done well, and from what I've heard and saw from videos, it seems they're getting it right, then it'll offer tremendous hours of fun leveling gameplay/story on the different classes.

That sounds much more interesting to me in the long term than raiding/PvPing constantly once I've reached cap. That is something I've noticed from all the MMO's I've played, Everquest, SWG and FFXI being my favorites, is that the endgame was never as fun as leveling and progressing with characters. Throwing in the Bioware and Star Wars factor just means I could never pass this up :p

Hopefully Biowares answers to endgame content (I think theres an entire planet dedicated to PvE endgame) works better than previous MMOs I've played, but even if it is similar, I'm looking forward to leveling the different classes to experience the story more than anything.

What is it with trying to help, people on here and all you see is the guild names popping up all the time ...glad that blank application was refused, thanks for putting our name here again, so the 2 peeps reporting can report us again .. cheers retro

It's absolutely ludicrous. I can't understand how any self-respecting fan of star wars could think that Jedi and Sith who are locked in a vicious galactic war would decide to engage in a game of catch (even with explosions and combat.), let alone fight on the same team...

Bioware, what the hell are you doing?

I can see it being set to imperial vs rebel.

Was watching a developer walk-through from Gamescom last night and Bioware stated that you would not be teamed up alongside the opposing faction.

You will get the Republic Vs Empire and also Republic Vs Republic (same applies for Empire)

Feels like people just jump on any kind of flaw within the game they can find and make it sound worse than it is, it does my head in. The ammount of wow fan boys that would hate to see another game do as well as WoW is stupid.
