Future triple channel?

I can't make much sense out of the intel roadmap at the moment. Can anyone tell me if there is anything due out in the next year or 2 that will use triple channel RAM? I'm tempted to squirrel away a set of 6x4Gb while the prices are so low. I probably won't be building for another year, though I am half tempted to pick up and old x58 rig cheap which would use it.

One other thing - any sign of 8Gb modules on the PC side - already available in laptops, but not seen any boards that support them yet?

I don't think there will be, I believe the next update will use quad channel memory.

Hopefully someone can confirm!

I was kinda hoping they would go for 8 - but suspect that it will be 4, which is a shame, seems the last gen X58 boards will still give the most RAM for a while to come. Given the price (and lifetime warranty) I might just go for it anyway - worst case I'll have a spare pair.

Sorry, it is 8

But like I said, there are some boards with 4

Is it still going to be DDR3 - and if so can I just buy an extra pair of modules and go to 32Gb?

As far as we know it's still going to be DDR3.

Some very early prototype motherboards were shown with 8 RAM slots so you could presumably use 8x4GB for 32GB if they made it to production.

More recently they've only been shown with 4 RAM slots so without 8GB DIMM's you'd be limited to 4x4GB for 16GB.

What it comes down to is:

a) If you're hoping they have 8 RAM slots why buy 24GB now and 8GB in the future? Surely you'd buy matching RAM now and get 8x4GB.

b) You'd be taking a big chance as production boards may only have 4 RAM slots.

lol that 8 slot board above looks ridiculous. whats with the ram either side of the cpu now?
also the second board with quad pci-e slots and only 4 slots - does that mean that the mobo is under to much stress to put 4 more slots on? :O

the whole thing seems like a step backwards to me. should have stuck to triple channel for a while seems like a good number to get 6gb+ of ram onto boards.

 Just realised that those are SAS ports on the left of the lower mobo. 8 SAS and 6 Sata - nice! :D

I don't suppose there is any news on 8Gb modules yet? Seems odd that laptops got them 1st

Nice find - looking good - just have to wait and see if it's 4 or 8 slots for the Quad channel. I like the multiple SATA/SAS support. Any idea if Q4 is still realistic?

There wont be anything new out with triple channel DDR3, one reason for why I want to skip this Gen and make the most use of what I already have.

I already have 6x2 Gb 1600 Mhz Cas 6 modules, and also 6x4 Gb 1600 Mhz Cas 9 modules.

I thought that the the 4 Gb modules I got would at least run at Cas 8, if not Cas 7 with more voltage according to reviews, but I got modules from a worse batch with different version stickers (thanks corsair, sending good modules to reviewers and bad ones in trhe retail packs).

And the price on the 4 Gb sticks fell far too much so now I just have them sat around collecting dust until Ram prices fluctuate again in an upward direction (as they normally tend to do).
