**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Rotterdam, dApollo, Tastosis are pretty much the only casters I like.
Khaldor/Day[9] are pretty okay, I wouldn't mind watching them.

Any tournament with Husky, HD, MrBitter, TB and DjWheat casting just ruins the whole experience of watching it imo.

I think mr bitter is better than a lot of other casters but hes not the best.. also I think rotterdam was just making him look bad at ESL constantly proving him wrong etc.

I agree husky and HD ( OMG HD SOOOOO BAD) are pretty bad but you can't hate on husky as he's done so much for starcraft.

I don't mind dj wheat so much but when he's paired with day9 everything is very over dramatic.

I would agree on the can't hating Husky, what he did for TB was very very kind.

Day9+DJ can be good i think, starting to have a bit more chemsitry listening to them.

JP McDaniels was awful at the blizzcon invitational.
Tastosis is obviously awesome even though they are so ridiculously bias to certain players (/COUGH NESTEA).

FINALLY RANKED GOLD.
Was rank one in my ladder, in which time i won 14 games, lost 2 and finally got promoted.
God i hate that system.

Congrats on Gold, there seems to be less cheese on Gold I've found...

I quite like TB myself, he works quite will with dApollo IMO.

I offically HATE silver!

Take me back to bronze - at least I could win a few games!

Silver seems to be tons of protoss with zealot legs, DT's and blink stalkers and I just can't handle them at all!!!

They can't be getting all of those unless you're talking 20min+ games, so you need to scout and figure what they're up to.

DTs are hard to scout since sneaky protoss like to hide the tech, but if you scout and see they don't have much stuff at the 6-7min mark they're either teching to DTs or Void Rays. In either case the counter is to have your engineering bay built so you can get a couple of missile towers up. I always build an e bay vs toss around the 5 min mark, you can usually afford the minerals then!

Don't expand too early either, especially in silver. Around the 8-10 min mark is fine. That means if they attack you they're pushing up your ramp which should be easy to hold.

Can't advise much more without a replay!

thanks for that - usual get eng bay up but my scouting was poor if i'm honest.

Had him pinned on 2 bases with tanks/MMM etc but then out of nowhere I had about 6 DT's in my base that i missed.

I noticed as soon as my scouting got better, my win rate increased by an absolute tonne, that and macroing hard can carry you a long way even with **** control unless u get infestors or something.

DTs are the usual come back by a protoss who's behind, so always watch for that tech switch. If I remember (and I often don't) once I'm floating 1000 minerals (don't we all!) I stick a missile turret up at each base just in front of the CC. Either than or incorporate a raven into your build, but I usually only do that if I've scouted the dark shrine.

this is a good tip, as a P myself my new tactic vs T is just go void early game. It is so much more effective against T then any gateway units as you can seriously harrass and force marines, then you tech switch to colossus if the game goes on that long and its insta win.

my win rate vs T shot up big time since going for it and it used to be the matchup I dreaded.

People say its cheese - hardly, its just as P we can either invest in 400 gas for sentries , and sit on our ass to hold a T's early marauder push (bc its OP) or actual do something early game to try and get an expansion up without fear.

One thing that helped me a lot was using the function keys as save points on the map.
Just hotkey a place on the map to f2, and you'll soon realise (with some practice) that you get around much faster, and respond much faster as well, at least I did.

Also, remember to upgrade in between attacks. I can tell you from personal experience that upgrades has saved me a game more times than I can imagine. :P

Anyone got any good scouting tips?

I'm getting to grips with zerg, I can hold off early cheeses ok and long 30-40+ minute games generally favor zerg anyway.

But I'm finding most of my losses come at around the 15-20 minute mark where my opponent arrives with either a totally massive army compared to mine or they appear with like 10 void rays when I've got lings and roaches.

I know my failures are usually scouting related but it seems really difficult as zerg vs walled of bases with cannons/turrets/bunkers

just burn an oversear or two, their cheap (for zerg) and least you wont be in the dark and scouting anything is better then nothing, and just throw the odd ling into his base to see whats up.
and 20 mins? and you only have lings/roaches? i think its probably more to do with your macro then any scouting tbh.

100 Gas isn't cheap when playing Zerg, unless of course you're below Diamond league and not macroing enough.

The biggest tip I can give you is to watch replays, look at the army and ask yourself how much gas/minerals is rougly being spent in the army. If I see a protoss getting more than 1 zealot or a stalker I know without even scouting his base it's Dark Templar or Stargate play.

Thing's like these will just come naturally the more you play.
Generally I keep 1 ling at the bottom of his ramp, 2 at xel naga towers and 1 overlord to suicide waiting near his base which I'll send in around 7 minutes on the game timer.

it is if your 15-20 minutes into the game and on 3/4 bases, plus by then you should have speed and there's zero reason why it should die.

like i said sounds more like a macro then a direct scouting issue, to go that long into a game and only have lings/roaches is pretty bad - must be floating a lot of cash.

BTW: Astaeri you need to check the tourny thread out, someones trying to get their match going with you!
