5850 to 6970 ?

You get your performance downgraded if you go from 2x 5850 to a single 6970, i.e. most games would run at much lower fps.
You would only see significant performance increase in very limited situations, such like starting dual-instance of WoW in DX11 mode with max settings, which doesn't use much GPU power but uses lots of vram.

you would get a more stable min framerate tbh , i went from crossfired 5870's to a single 6970 and it supprised the min fps was better . i did this with wanting to add a second at a later date which i now have
I see, as you say there is always the case add another at later date which then make it even better.
Still trying to justify spending £200ish on another gpu so I will more than likely stay with the 2 x 5850's for now at leaset

the 58** series are still good cards tbh , you might as well wait to see what comes early next year or sooner
when is that going to be thou ... here different things now its suggest 1q 2012 ...
