I recently built a i3 550 rig from a couple of auction wins, for ~£100

i3 550
Gigabyte H55M-S2H
2x 4gb Mushkin Radioactive PC12800 1600mhz DDR3 it sure does clock well, 1960mhz has been achieved. *Bought brand new*

I would say that was a good deal

Anyway the stock Intel cooler is rubbish, I need better, I was thinking either HSF or basic watercooling kit?

Whats the best option?

Cheers :)

What case have you got? as some of the heatsinks are tall and can stop the sidepanel going back on.

My case, it's just some MATX Hewlett Packard jobbie, I only housed the system in it as a joke, make it look a bit of a sleeper, just as people do with cars :p

So if it doesnt have 120mm fan mount at the rear then the water coolers wont fit.

can you measure from the cpu surface to the sidepanel to find out the max height?

There was plenty enough when I had a Coolermaster TX3, when I had a e6850 setup inside.

I believe the rear fan is 120mm

i'll put out my usual suggestion of the Zalman CNPS9900MAX. if you have a 120mm fan at the back i'd be very surprised if it doesnt fit, because my case can only fit a 90mm fan at the back and the cooler fits.

wish i could find a review from one of the big names though. the only one i can find from a site i recognise is from guru3D, and they put it in front of the Noctua NH-D14, which is very unlikely
