Since the included fan doesnt automatically change rpm when cpu usage goes up and down, can anyone reccomend a really good fan replacement?
Something that will clip straight onto the heatsink to replace and has a good rpm output but not exceedlingly loud!

Had the same problem with the H70 and 2 of them noisy beasts. I put on a single Akasa Apache and got the same temperatures with much less noise, when idle it is completely silent. Any 120mm fan should fit into the clip on housing your original fan is connected to on them rubber grommets. Take a bit of a pull to get them off but the do come off.
 
That one posted above is good. You should also check out the Akasa Apache black. It's silent and has good airflow, not to mention black.
 
Don't think you can attach 2 fans to the A50 (it is the A50 you have right?). The fan mount should clip on and off easy enough, so just pull it off and see if it will clip on the other side. If not I am sure you could rig one up to fit some how.
 
In the end I went for the 1 I posted above, will be a big improvment over my current 1
If I can get temps below 80 under full load in prime 95 @ 5ghz i'll be very happy!
 
Hey Lord Kram - I have the same CPU/cooler combo and was wondering what temps you were getting when you were on stock speed for the CPU (if you can remember) and what they rose to as you upped the ghz? Also, what thermal paste are you using?

Atm overclocked at 4.8ghz idle temps are around 35-40 (up and down) but full load under prime 95 go towards a high 85 (Core voltage around 1.37-1.38 ish)
Just checked the stock as well (3.4ghz optimized defaults all auto. intel speedstep disabled) and idle temps are around 28-30 and full load under prime 95 for around 10-15 mins temps dont go above 55 which is pretty good (although vcore is only 1.1-1.2!
Am hoping this new fan helps slightly, although I am on the look out for a new cooler, and will prob be getting 1 soon because I am going ot need it to be able to run at 5ghz and over!
Sorry forgot to add using AS 5 as thermal compound
EDIT: Just noticed the fan I ordered above has gone on special as this week offer down to £9.98 so cancelled my other order and ordered from oc! :D

I have a feeling getting a cooler without "direct contact" to the heat pipes would be better. I have re-seated my A70 about 5 times now with Arctic silver following instructions to the letter (cleaning with ISO > tint cpu > creditcard the heatpipe base until transparent > single line of AS5 on the cpu as directed). I get good temps don't get me wrong but I still feel that a flat polished copper base is best for contact and these direct contact heat-pipes allow for too much imperfection/thermal compound to make sure contact is optimal. Next time I think I will go for a Nocturna, as it is way too much hassle mounting these things.
 
Thanks Lord Kram. Definitely a fair bit lower that my temps, which are about 34 idle and 60 at load, and this is on stock. I'm surprised that your idle temps are only 35-40 at 4.8 yet go up as high as 85 at load. 25 degree difference at stock compared to a 45 degree difference between idle and load at 4.8 is quite a big change.

How well vented is your case, if you don't mind me asking? Mine is under a desk with only a single 12cm fan at front and one at the back, so I'm wondering if that is maybe why my temps on idle are higher than yours.

What temps are you getting? I have an A70 using the stock paste and both fans on low using the resistors, and my 2500k @ 4.5GHz idles at 26-30 degrees and load is always under 65 degrees (running prime).

Try and apply the thermal paste like THIS and see if it makes a difference.
 
Well ive got 2 case fans running both at the back and front, when I put the thermal paste on when installing the cooler, I used the 1 drop method right in the middle (like someone did on a guide on youtube) so I'm not sure if my high temps are to do with that
I won't have this cooler forever though will be getting something better soon, may see if I get any improvement with the new fan once it comes

Nice link. Think I will try this next time, with some higher quality paste and see what difference it makes.

The only trouble im going to have is deciding for certain on a new cooler, theres quite a few good 1s out atm, with people reccomending different 1s all the time, its tricky finding 1 for definite
 
agreed i have been reading everything for about three weeks before i decided..

mine was harder still as wanted a cooler in black to fit in with my build..

as far as i have read cant beat the silver arrow/noctua hd14 etc on air
and the thermalright fans at 140mm or gentles at 120mm.

but most are so good it comes down to personal choice as the top few only seem to average 5 degrees between a lot of top coolers
as for fans think there is a greater difference with manufactures spec sometimes being miles off the mark
