Hi there,

I got myself some logitech z-5500 but I want to use Digital Optical Audio lead from the speakers too the xbox and still use HDMI.

I have a xbox 360 elite so is it possible to use HDMI lead and Optical Audio at the same time?

Also, what is a good Optical Audio cable under £10?

Thank you

It is possible yes but you will need an adaptor if you're unwilling to deface your component cable.

Optical cables are much of a muchness, just buy something for a sensible price off of amazon or the like, i personally wouldn't spend more than a fiver for a 1.5m cable.

What adaptor do I need?

I can't remember if i'm honest! Something along the lines of optical adaptor or hdmi adaptor.

Personally, i just snapped open the casing at the chunky end of the supplied component cable, that way you can plug in both it (which you can then plug a optical cable into) and a HDMI cable without issue, saves you £15.

Just run it all through the component cable?

You can still get 1080p through them and the optical, no need to buy anything.

I use the official 360 hdmi cable with my z5500's it comes with the adapter that plugs in just under the HDMI port and outputs to optical, Just like HDMI optical is a digital signal and cannot be improved by any cable, if you spend more than £1 for an optical cable you're a fool

If your on about the cable in the picture, I don't have 1 /:

You need the the optical audio adapter, it basically looks like the cable in your above picture without any cables coming off it, just the box for 2x phono plus optical hole.

If you can't get one new, try second hand. Don't spend more than £2 on an optical cable, there's no point in any more expensive ones.

I cancelled the order as I fount one of them leads in the picture above. Well I think it's same one. It's the one with HD TV switch on it.

So, do I just need to remove the casing off it so I can use HDMI at same time?

Thank you.

I *think* you need to do a modification to it if it's a normal component cable. You can fit both that and the HDMI cable fine. Could always try hooking up your component cable to your TV instead of the HDMI (but depends on how much your TV likes component, most don't do 1080p over component).

Thanks,

I don't use a TV on my xbox so I can't do that. I've tried to fit that and HDMI lead in at same time and it won't fit.

So, I'll remove the case and see.

Use a VGA cable for your Xbox instead if you can't use components, the picture quality is a lot better IMHO than component and it has the optical output on the plug which goes into the Xbox ... that's how I run mine through my Z-5500's via a 3 way optical switch.
