Another P8P67 Pro Double boot

OK, took delivery of my new system build. It's great apart from this annoying (yet apparently quite common) double boot issue.

I think I've tried pretty much everything I can find from my searches: Enabled the PCIe, disabled all onboard hardware not used. Disabled Marvel controller etc, but still the random double reboot. I have the 1502 BIOS, but when I try to update to the 1850 version, the EZ Flash utility fails to update with the message: "Image integrity check failed". Which is the best method to install the BIOS would you say, and has it actually fixed the double boot issue for anyone?

Any more ideas would be most welcome at this point!

Got the same thing with P8Z68-V Pro and also tried everything to no avail, I've heard locking the BCLK to 100.0 can help but I still get a double boot on a cold boot... when I press the power button it fires up for about 0.5sec and then dies and starts normally 2sec later.

I've come to the conclusion that the BIOS is **** and am waiting for a new one.

P.S. Try downloading the BIOS from another mirror it sounds like the one you have is corrupt.

mmj...are you running with 1850 BIOS then? If you still have the problem, then I don't see a point in updating mine :(

I must say, it's left me very disappointed in Asus. I mean, not only is there this double boot issue, there's the much reported issue which prevents me from entering 'Sleep' mode. So I need to face this occasional double boot issue everytime I start the PC instead of just waking from sleep. This must surely add stress to the HD's?

So yeah, a little fed up and disillusioned from self builds after 10 years of relative success until now.

I don't know about the current ones but Asus boards I've owned previously have always done this.

If the BIOS was at default settings then they would do a single boot.

If you made alterations in the BIOS, overclocking for example, they would do a quick boot to test the settings and then a full boot a few seconds afterwards.

I've got the Z68 chipset based board, running the latest bios 0606, I can't say if that 1850 bios will fix it for you.

I've had a Gigabyte P67 and that was fine, so I think it's a UEFI problem (immature bios).

Even at default my board does what I described above, infact overclocking makes it worse.

Enable power on by pciex should fix that issue with sleep mode

Nope, it was like this from the first boot. It's a stock system with no clocking or BIOS tweaks at all. Well, it was until I made all the changes people have suggested in this and other forums. That has helped. It now double boots some of the time.

Yaeh, tried that too :(

Like I say though, it's maybe something I could live with on it's own, but I have the sleep problem with it as well. So I can't get away from booting everytime I need the PC. Or just leave it on 24/7 just using the Windows 7 power saving options.

But I guess I just object to having an unstable system. I can now only presume it just objects to one or more of my components. Probably RAM.

I've tried 3 different memory types (2 are Asus certified) and 3 different power supplies to no avail, which is why I have now come to the conclusion that it's BIOS bug/related at least for the double boot issue, I don't know about your sleep problem.

I suppose I owe you thanks there then mmj. You've saved me from going down that long and painful road of changing RAM etc. I was also thinking PS as well. But desperation creates that doubt doesn't it? Have you tried ASUS support? I know they are next to useless, but just wondered what they have to say on the subject.

It is a tough one though. I mean, not everyone has this issue. Though plenty did pre Rev 3 it seems and a few of us stragglers remain. So why is that, if not a hardware clash I wonder?
