So guys, I'll give you a little background as to what has been going on with me lately.

> got some money.
> wanted a macbook.
> bought a macbook 13" > got it > had a 'bug' behind the screen > didn't want it > sold it.
> sold my mac mini > bought pc parts > got the money for my macbook with the small black blemish and now, I have just gone on bought this:

(From e-bay no less).

It cost me £470
It's the LATE 2009 model, 2GB DDR3, 160GB HDD, 2.26GHz

Now this is the Macbook Pro, so it's a little better than the Macbook, it's a little faster and what not, but after buying it, I'm not sure if I've gone ahead and made the right choice, I think it was more of a "I've saw it, it's in my price range, so lets get it" kind of thing.

I am infact going to Uni in sept so it will come in useful and I am an absolute Mac fanatic, love them, I try to get my family to make the switch, I love everything about them, I'm doing heavy design work and coding in uni so it will come in helpful, but I can't help but feel that I've made a mistake in making this purchase.

What do you guys think?

Why would you feel it's a mistake? You like the hardware and the platform, and you seem to have purchased at the right price for you so what's the problem?

After making this purchase I'm pretty much skint and I've got like not much money left, I've got parties to attend, journeys to make and stuff, I feel that the money could have gone on something else really, that may have suited me more, but i'm not sure, maybe it's me just being stupid.

£470 is a pretty good price for one of those there! You should be pleased for getting one! Its the nice portable size, good for uni, not the best for gaming (also good for uni) and if you ever feel you need it to improve a ram upgrade is cheap (and doing a hard drive upgrade at the same time is nice and easy too).

Anyway hug it and be excited that it is pretty awesome to use :) (oh and if you are going to uni you'll get your loan in a few weeks so why worry about money...)

Yeah that's true, only have to wait til' 20th sept, so it's not too long, so I guess it's well worth it, it'll be much better once in Uni and I realise that this was the right choice afterall, and it is worth the money I guess, i've got 2gb ram lying around here from my old mac mini, so I'll slide that in and i've got 4gb, no worries!

Yup, you're a student after all - crap with finances :p

Parties to attend? Surely thats not going to cost £470?!

LOL! no ofcourse not, but i'd like money to buy beer, :P

There's only 2 ram slots in it so you'll need 2 2gig sticks unfortunately :(

But 3-4 weeks till loan day is one to look forward too :D

And anyway give it a few weeks of playing and using it and you'll never remember what was nice about any other set up you had so enjoy!

Well I think it's coming with a 1x2gb i think and i've got 1x2gb here, so that should be all good, i think i'm guna upgrade it with 8gb in uni though, should be awesome! :(

And definitely, this is probably guna be my main desktop after a while.

I have a 2.26 with 8GB of RAM and a SSD which I use day to day still, the form factor works really nicely and it's still just about powerful enough to use day to day. For the price you paid that's really rather good.

I'd try and get an SSD rather than 8GB of RAM though, 4GB will do and it'll make far more difference.

I think I'm most definitely going to invest in 8GB of ram again and get an SSD once back in University, it should be amazing then!

The thing with macs is, it makes me want to just scrap my PC, it's crazy.

Got exactly the same setup and I use it for web dev and photography, and I never had any problems with performance.

It boots into Mac OSX Lion in 8-10 second, switches off in 2 sec.

£470 is bargain if you ask me.

Personally I would add 4GB of Ram paired with a SSD Drive. Super fast, 8GB if you beleive it would be neccasery. Although 4GB Ram + SSD would have a whole lot of sheer GRUNT.

Yeah, I've done 8GB now but it's not necessary really, an SSD should be a priority before the extra RAM.

Yeah definitely, it's a little annoying at the moment though considering I bought it off e-bay, I paid for it straight away, had words with him asking if he could post it ASAP, he told me that he'll try to post it on thurs and if not then, Friday definitely, but not heard anything back, no replies or anything, it's not being posted.

Quite annoying, I hate dealing with bad communicators.

Jealous, honestly. Once you get 4Gb RAM and a SSD in there it'll be a nice machine.
Thinking about getting one myself after my gap year when I go to uni.

Yeah I cannot wait until it arrives now, I'm thinking about replacing my gaming rig for it, as I don't game on it much anymore and I do more aless all of my gaming on my xbox now, so might just use it as my primary machine once I get the SSD + 8GBS, :>

I'll just pick up a 128gb SSD and use my 320GB external as back - up, can't wait til sept now.

Pity that the guy who I bought off from e-bay is being quite difficult and have not heard from him since thursday. ¬.¬
