Camping advice

In addition to items alreadt mentions.

Few packs of baby wipes.
Bin bags.
Bucket - can fullfill all kinds of useful function on a campsite including being a washing up bowl.

Forget the supplied pent pegs, buy some 10" nail tent pegs.. These aren't going anywhere and don't bend.

I found this out a few years ago when our tent last year flew down the road breaking the poles.. I had to tie part of the tent to the car.. then drove off forgetting it was still attached.. The kids thought it was highly amusing..

Thanks Huddy an actual LOL from me in the office resulting in strange looks. :(

Pro tip, To put tent pegs in hard ground, push the tent peg in till it gets hard to push, then make a circle motion with the tent peg while pushing down and they go in much easier. (if your tent pegs are cheap they can bend however)

I've been camping for 15years and never had to use a mallet yet.

If you do get airbeds, take a couple of fleece blankets and put them between the airbed and your sleeping bag. It makes a huge difference to your warmth levels as without it a lot of your body heat transfers into the cold air in the bed. Even better if you can put a picnic blanket or similar under the airbed too.

Take pillows from home in a vac bag, take up very little space that way and add to the comfort a lot.

Headtorch
Swiss army knife or multitool.
If walking, compass, map and whistle.
Small stove i.e. pocket rocket with pans.
Cool bag with ice packs, will keep milk, butter fresh and tins cool for a couple of days if kept closed up.
Insect repellant, sun screen
Bin liners, always useful for keeping things dry, feet warm in a sleeping bag (bin liner outside bag), storage and packing up.
Pillow. More important than a mattress, I sleep on a 25mm mattress but need a pillow to be comfortable.
Layers, tees, jumpers, fleeces etc.
Nearby pub with restaurant useful.

Bog Rolls. You can never have too many, especialy if your cooking random meat on a bbq.

Cricket Bat. The person in the next tent is bound to think its ok to still be up at 2AM drinking and singing chesney hawkes songs , chatting about there sex life, watching big brother on portable tv. Periodic early evening nochalant strolls with said cricket bat fix this.

I would ditch the airbeds I hate them. I bought a camping bed from Go outdoors for <£15 I think it was and it was so much more comfortable than a damn airbed plus no blowing it up.

If you have to cook inside the tent, make certain that you have adequate ventilation, and ensure the stove/burner is nowhere near the material of the tent (sorry if that's a bit condesending, but iirc there was a recent tradgedy involving some kind of gas heater and inadequate ventilation in a tent). Have fun :)
