Is there anyway I can check what it would cost me roughly? I have no idea what gas/elec/water/internet/tv license/council tax and god knows what else would amount to.

I know it depends on where you live (Swindon) but a rough figure would be handy.

Well, depending on a couple of variables, I'm pushing 600-700 pcm. I'm not counting food or tv license in those figures. I'd say those are reasonable amounts to budget for, assuming you'd rather be in credit than debt with stuff like utilities.
Rent
Gas/electricity
water
council tax
contents insurance
car insurance
internet

Id made a similar list myself, excluding fuel, food, "things"

You can google most the answers and find out for yourself. Look at local online letting agents rent sorted and water rates (ring and ask them going rate). Local council for council tax, sorted. Search online for broadband providers and TV and again sorted and again search TV license fee and you shall find ;)

There are a few things that might supprise you.

1, Most councils will let you pay council tax monthy. But some divide it into 10 payments and then don't charge two months of the year. Make sure if you're living on your own you get the single occupancy discount, it'll save you 25%.

2, You use much more Gas and Electric in the winter. If you sign up to a company and agree a monthy direct debit they'll set a price to try and smooth this out. However you need to keep an eye on the bills and also make sure you're giving them meter readings. If it's the middle of the coldest december on record and you're account is in credit that it's time to ask for a refund.

3, TV licensing have a level of customer service somewhere between Alcatraz and hell. For some reason they make you pay extra for the first year if you have monthly direct debits. But not if you have quarterly. Also just because you have a license it doesn't mean you might not get letters saying you're a criminal for watching TV illegally.
