Pro Evolution soccer 2012

Why do people moan about the team stats ffs - means very little, other than for playground bragging rights :D

Individually in each area, Milan probably have got the better players 'individually' compared to United. Zlatan, Robinho and Pato would all get into Uniteds team, vice versa just Rooney would touch the Milan lineup.

Whats the midfields like; top of my head - Seedorf, Rino, Pirlo? Old but still good technically and id assume the game represents that... United have Giggs who is similar, Fletcher who is not much kop and would look average in any other team. Carrick and Nani, decent but again as individuals not the best.

Defence? Vidic and Evra are top draw, Rio probably has stats that reflects how injuries have worked him, Fabio is it on the other flank? Up and coming and again bags of potential. Milan... Abate id assume average, Thiago and Nesta solid enough but Nesta knocking on, and Zambrotta again old but still a solid full back.

Keepers - De Gea bags of potential but not there yet, not many keepers are peaking at his age so United have a lot to look forward to. Abbiati, good Italian keeper.

Now my lineups might be awry but thats from memory and although you might think im slagging off United im not. Infact as a team 'whole' id agree they deserve to be closer in ratings... however I believe both PES and FIFA do this and the stats are drawn from the individuals in each area, and given that Milan although with older players, they are likely to have better individual stats especially technically over the United equivalents.

Personally even though I have typed the above, I dont even look at players stats in this sort of game. In the main you can get a team to play how you want and I just pick players that id like to see playing or who im spiced into at the time. Like last night I did a few United games and in the main my midfield would be Park, Anderson, Carrick, Nani - with Sid and Rooney up front.

/waffled - but its a great game and for those struggling with the pace of it, you can tweak the game speed slider up by 2 notches if you want it to run a bit quicker. Oh and one of the best things is the ball, it really acts as its own entity in the game with the spin, rebounds etc... never ever looks like its being held into a pre-determined position or flight, unlike FIFA which to me always has this sort of 'AI' determination as to how the ball rebounds or falls to players etc

If individual players are the only thing contributing to the team stats then I dread to think what Man City's will be like.

I played the demo again 1920x1080 and the blurriness was no longer there, it still didn't look right though.

One good thing about the game is the easiness of passing. Overall though, not a very fun game.

So the graphics were worse than PES 11? Fifa 11 PC's graphics were beyond poor. Hoping one of the two can be bothered with the PC this year. I normally plump for PES because they at least give us the most up to date version.

Scored an absolute screamer with van Bommell. Chicarito just missed a chance for united and it was cleared upfielf by Nesta straight onto the head of Ibrahimovic who headed it down to a on-running van Bommell. No touch, just a shot from about 30 yards away into the top right hand corner. De Gea just stood there.

Great game!

Its definitely got the fun factor back which has been missing since Pro Evo 5/6. These blurry graphics are really annoying me though. It can't be intentional surely? If it is why not blur all the cinematics as well?

I think the blur is just a filter to maybe make the game run better for weaker PCs? It'll most likely be an option to turn off, I'm hoping. :p

righty... i've been a pretty avid player of 2011 so thought I'd give it a write up after playing this for about an hr or so.

I think the major discussion point is that people are complaining about the blurriness and to clarify IT IS blurry when the camera's not in close range. However, I don't think this is indicative of what it will be like once you can adjust the video quality settings, it doesn't look like anything more than Konami turning the LOD (Level Of Detail) settings down in order to satisfy every PC's specifications so they have an operable demo out there which all standards of PC can run without any difficulty. So don't panic, just ignore it for now and when the final version is released I'll eat my own semen if this isn't the case.

Second, the goalkeepers are a bit crap at the moment. They seem excellent from distance, although they parry quite a bit, but once my goalkeeper saved a shot by parrying it forward, got up, got to the ball first and instead of diving on it attempted to "play his way" out of trouble and consequently I conceded. Maybe I pressed something, maybe he "thought" it was a spectacular passback, either way it was lame.

My biggest complaint is that unless you have completely manual player switching it can cause you problems. For example, you have a 1 on 2 situation and you're defending. One is defender deeper than the other and you are in control of the one who is further up the pitch (and so nearer the attacking player). You close down the approaching forward and end up ever so slightly behind them. Your aim, even if you miss the tackle, is to prevent the striker from coming inside or just to force them to evade you, which in turn slows them down to allow the "covering" defender to close down the attacker, so you execute a slide tackle. You are immediately switched to the deeper player who slides in at, well, bloody thin air and the forward just strides passed and inevitably puts it in the back of the net.

In addition to the above if you have manual player selection enabled then when you pass the ball to a player and that player receives it you have to manually hit "L1" to control the player who actually HAS the bloody ball. Maybe I've missed something here but I can't think of a decent reason why you'd NOT want to immediately control the player with the ball.

Having said that the passing seems good to me, I've yet to find much luck with the lofted through pass because they feel a bit "shallow" but maybe I just need more practice. Otherwise the 360 degree passing feels solid and you really can string together some rapid passing movement and don't find yourself having to play the ball back all the time to retain possession as you can hold the ball up quite nicely.

I'm struggling with the shooting a bit, I hit the post/bar A LOT, but this is something I'd have to get used to I expect.

The close control really is better and the "control and burst" play is brilliant and carving open a defence is very satisfying. You are more likely to get a shot away in close quarters too, although long shots (and crosses for that matter) seem more easily blocked.

The AI is decent (Although i only played it on Pro), although i found players a little reluctant to try to spring the defence when L1+Passing, and the general physics are very nice. Tackling feels a little delayed but I think it's more realistic this way as opposed to the "immediate sliding tackle" in pretty much any other football game. It encourages you to stay on your feet more, which is what you should be doing IRL.

I'll have to play it more but it certainly seems a bit better than 2011, if they iron the bugs out I think they'll be on to a winner.

I would have to agree that I would be extremely surprised if the final version had the blurriness of the demo. In fact, I expect the second demo to not have the blur come September. If it does then I'll start to worry.

exactly. no chance it having that blur issue plus theis already a mod out or about to be released that disables the blur. from evo web.

also the mod scenes working on adidng 54 teams in the demo http://www.evo-web.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=64629

I played three matches and although there are some positives - the AI behaving correctly when I've sent my goalkeeper sprinting out of the area like a madman for example - I just didn't get on with it at all.

I found it fairly straightforward to break down the wing although the AI of the defence was generally solid.

The passing didn't feel right. FIFA 11 isn't great either but neither that nor this come close to PES from a few years ago. Back then, it wouldn't try to assume which of the two players running to your left was the intended recipient of a pass and if you played the pass badly enough, neither one of them would get it. FIFA in that regard always makes an assumption it is a pass to the closest of those players.

The weight of passes also seemed to be all over the place. One minute I'm playnig the crisp short pass I'm after, the next that same player is blasting it along the ground for no apparent reason. I got someone else to try it out as well and they found the same thing.

I'm sure it has a lot of things going for it but it won't win me over from FIFA where I have resided since 2009 unless there are some serious changes and I got tired of this "preview build" nonsense a long time ago.

I get FIFA and PES every year, there are things about each game that make them worthwhile purchases IMO. I.e Become a legend is better than be a pro, but manager mode is better than the master league.

Having played the demo, PES 2012 is a much more realistic depiction of football and I'm excited by it now. However I'll still be buying both, as they are both good games in their own way.

P.S Fanboys suck :p

The fanboys used to be all about PES... then when Wayne Rooney advertised FIFA, all the monkeys followed and FIFA and its arcade modes got the acclaim.

If FIFA didnt have the gimmicks of 11 v 11 or that stupid trading card game then no one would touch it. Its an average game only alive because PES shot itself in the foot.
