Since getting a new bed and wardrobes, I don't have a lot of room for my PC so was thinking about relocating it in the loft and running long (5m) USB, DVI etc cables down to my room. Loft access from my room is easy.

I currently run a i5 750 (as per sig) with a H50 but I am thinking that it will be quite hot in the roof so maybe I will need to go full watercooled inc GPU and CPU?

Your opinions would be apprciated.

Surely there is space somewhere :P

Seems like a major inconvenience and would not be great for many reasons mainly dust and its in the loft!!

Unfortunatly I have been stuck with the box room (7" by 10", Small) And I have lost my nice big desk to a double bed and wardrobe. Anyway, I have made myself a corner desk (55cm deep, 150cm one wall, 120cm other wall) but the room under the desk is quite limited due to the chair etc. And when I have a friend who brings his PC round, I am even more limited by desk space.

It will be red hot if its a warm day. The loft is the warmest room in a house. If you get some nice fans it will be fine and you will not hear them up there

Not sure what the signal degradation on DVI is but it can be a problem with DSUB/VGA on large resolutions I believe. USB is about 5m without repeaters. Not sure about HDMI... could be longer?

The loft would be a fine place for a file server but nothing else IMHO sorry..

My loft in summer is baking hot make sure you have good cooling i would have a 2ft fan blowing over it but then it will be so dusty thought about moving my main pc to my hallway because its a bit noisy already have a 5m vga cable but this cable is real thick would like to use a much thinner cable.
Space is an issue for me too live in a 1 bedroom flat an have so much eletrical gear but your bedroom is so tiny you really need itx PC system something like a shuttle xpc but you already have a good rig.

My problem is that I would be very happy to down grade to a shuttle and Micro ATX ot ITX board, but how much is it going to cost? Thats my problem, I dont want to spend a chunk (£150-200) of money for no performance gain!

What about a mid sleeper or high sleeper with the desk underneath it?

You could also build a loft bed about 5' off the ground if your room is about 8'+ high & use the space beneath for a desk.

I built a loft bed for my nephew, & below it it has a corner desk, room 7'x7'.

Or buy your self a hammock...

Some years ago, I built a mezzanine floor big enough for a double bed about 6' off the ground for a girl's bedroom due to the lack of space.

Well I guess that's different, I'm imagining the sort of awful example that you'd find in MFI back in the day :D

No shop bought rubbish Zef, I built the mid sleeper myself some 10 years ago.
Most likely still there, couldn't be bother to remove it when he moved.

At my nephew's new house, he has another small bedroom, so, I'm thinking about restructuring two or three rafters & open it up to use part of the loft that's over the bathroom which backs onto his room as a mezzanine area for his bed & have access from the bedroom.
