Hello all,

I am looking for a new TV as my old 40" is just too damn small in the new house, I keep getting really bad eye strain, especially playing on the Xbox. How did I cope on a 14" tv the other side of my bedroom as a kid?

The last time I was buying a TV plasmas where a no no if you wished to play games on them, plus I don't remember any being 1080p at the time. LED tvs seems really nice (brightness wise), but I have heard of halo effects on light objects on dark backgrounds (credits etc).

So my requirments:
  • Good picture
  • 1080p
  • Around 55"+ (the space it's going in maximum size is not really a consideration)
  • Technology wise I don't care, as long as it won't have problems with games (ie plasma, LCD, LED)
  • Not bothered about 3D at all, if it has it that's fine I just won't use it
  • I have a 40" Samsung in the bedroom that has this media player in it which plays everything I throw at it, so I quite like that feature.
  • FreeviewHD/Freesat HD built in - I would prefer FreeviewHD built in so I can get a FreesatHD pvr
  • I have always liked Samsung on the LCD front, not so sure on the plasma/LED side as I have no experience
  • Built in sound is not important as I will be piping it through the 5.1, so it has to have optical out/analogue left and right
  • Price, well I was looking £1k-2k, but I don't want to waste money

So please help because I have no freaking idea what to get!

I have been thinking of this one: http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/.../UE55D6530WKXXU/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail

But is it any good? I am open to suggestions.

Hahahaha your not wrong it's expensive!

I doubt I would get that through the bank of women.

Well you might as well chop it off and start wearing dresses!

If it's your money and want it, then buy the thing.

Men these days!

Got the samsung although a smaller screen. The 3d on it is rubbish but you have stated you're not bothered about that. The 2d picture on the other hand is amazing can't fault it at all. The smart hub is a nice bit of tech as well although on the odd occasion it has suffered from slight slowdown.

My advise would be to get to see the sets in action. Also, try and change the settings from the sets from standard to moviee. This, particularly in the case of the samsung, makes the picture look far more natural.

Thanks chaps.

I will check out the Pany, I was contemplating a projector as well, hence why I wanted to keep the cost down, but I suppose I could not bother and get a really nice TV instead.
