Last night I parked my car, got out and noticed the sign which reads 'Disabled Badge Holders Only, Free Parking'.
I took this to mean all along the street was free parking for disabled badge holders.
I got to my car (with bought ticket in window) and had received a fine.
So does this disabled parking space look official?
Shouldn't it be clearly marked with a sign of some sort in it?

Is this a wind up thread?

It's quite clearly blue badge holders only, and incredibly clearly marked given the sign right next to it. It's also pretty apparant that there is only one space that is blue badge holders, given that the end of the other marked bays is obviously before it.

It would also appear (although mostly rubbed away, granted) that the floor in front of that space (i.e. further into the middle of the road) says DISABLED.

I understand what you mean in thinking it meant free parking anywhere on the street for disabled badge holders, however I don't think there's anything to do but chalk it up to a lapse in judgement and pay the fine.

It's one of those things where looking back it's obvious but at the time, for whatever reason it didn't register. Happened to me a few times in various situations.

You're wrong on that point because there are no words on the floor.
There were 9 of us looking at it and we all agreed is was not marked correctly but I thought one of you would link to 'Official marked parking bays government website' or something.
I've been street viewing other areas where I know there are disabled bays and all are marked clearly on the road.
Even a copper stopped to ask us what we were doing and then drove on saying it was nothing to do with them.

Does the bay look exactly like it does at the moment in the google street view you linked?

That was a bit dim of you, now, wasn't it?

You could probably put a case together that the bay is incorrectly marked and challenge it on those grounds. From my total lack of legal knowledge I confidently predict you'd win.

But, really, you parked in a disabled bay. Suck up the fine and be less dim in future.

Nice to see Motors living up to the reputation of being a welcoming place to ask questions and have discussion.

Did you bang your head on the pole of the sign as you got out your car :D

dmpoole you can contest this because it's not clear that the sign only applies to that bay - there used to be a marking on the ground but it's been covered up. Send the above photo to the contest email address on the ticket.
