im looking to do a journey up the m1 tomorrow
drove on it a few years ago
rigged with cameras lots of average speed checking ones

journey is from london to east midlands

can i except lots and lots of cameras?

Even if there were no cameras and you were going 20MPH over the speed limit the whole time you're only decreasing your journey time by about 20 minutes. Spend the additional 20mins wafting up the M1 instead with some good music, in comfort.

It's not a race :p

Lots of cameras, Average for quite a bit of it i believe, not to mention the bridges with police cars parked on them...

May aswell stick to 70 , you'll only skim a few mins of your journey by speeding anyway.

I haven't been driving up that way for a few months now but there were lots of average speed cameras last time I went via the M1, I'd guess they're still there as they have been for a long time now.

Viz Top Tip: Motorists, beat speed cameras and unmarked police cars at their own game by driving with due care and attention and within the speed limit.

There are average speed cameras from J10 to J13 until Spring 2013.

They are the SPECS ones the entire length, so stick to 50mph exactly

There is also some around J19 as well. So again make sure you stick to 50.

No other cameras apart from those around roadworks.

Check

before you leave.

Doesn't matter if it's less mileage though does it. If you're going at a steady speed on one route at all times then that route will burn less fuel than if you were slowing and speeding up at each section of the other.

you mean 50...
lol

Theres two sections that are clearly marked, with big huge yellow speed cameras everywhere, and everybody around you will be doing 50.

Just sit in the middle lane and follow the flow of traffic and you'll be fine.

Then just floor it the rest of the way.

I drove from london to leeds the other day and did most of it at 85. Just make sure you slow down for the roadworks. Simple really ?

yes over and out sarge lol :)

See I've been trying to figure that out myself, i did notice lots of people zipping past me considerably over the limit, so I assumed they were only active when the variable one was in force.

Unfortunately its not one of those things I'm willing to risk so I just stick at bang on 70. Though having said that I wouldnt want to go much faster on that section of the M1 anyway. I personally think the fact its 4 lanes means I feel I need to be more aware and thus drive a little bit slower. I find it much easier to drive quicker on dual carrigeways.
