What you think about Israel?

You need to separate being Israeli from being Jewish.

Israel has a right to exist and defend itself, however the Israeli Administration has no right to perpetrate mass punishment on the Arab people within it's assumed borders or to treat the Palestinian people the way it does, regardless of the terrorist acts perpetrated against them in their name.

We did not annex and isolate Eire during the troubles now did we.
Agreed. My brother lives over there, (just over two years) in the golan heights, a few miles from the borders with syria and lebanon. He informs me that generally, arabs and israeli's get on not too bad together, it's just the hardliners, (on both sides) causing the problems. He draws a lot of comparisons between israel and northern ireland.

Same as always really. A minority ruining it for a majority. I don't understand why people can't find something more productive to do than to hate on eachother.

I agree. Such a shame that people can't get on. Quite frankly, after thousands of years of killing each other, it's boring if nothing else!

If its just a small minority of hardliners causing the problem then why do the majority keep voting them into power?

Aye, those in power represent what the people want. So majority may act all nice and innocent but they support the actions of the "minorities". Maybe not support but definitely do not condemn the actions.

Governments are elected on the basis of many policies and promises, health, education, immigration to name a few. Everyone in the uk who voted for labour didnt vote them in to get involved in wars in iraq or afghanistan for example.

Not to mention the Slavs! He had a 3 pronged hatred towards Eastern Europeans and the Russians - they were Slavic, Communist and were mainly Jewish. It was never going to go down well :o

different kettle of fish mate, same old story

The Jewish people were just a scapegoat to Hitler. Blaming them (and the communists) helped him into power, gave him funds confiscated from them and fed his psychosis. Going back a long time, many countries forbade Jews from having certain jobs, so they were forced into being jewellers, bankers and money-lenders - this in turn made natives think that Jews controlled all the money and consequently increased jealousy and hatred of them. These sentiments have undoubtedly echoed down the ages.

I couldn't have summed it up better as an opinion. They have been persecuted and murdered in the millions. It's a part of our sick history we should never forget. With regard to Israel, perhaps it shouldn't have been done that way (the creation, but WE had a hand in the making of it), but it is what we've got and we all need to look for peace because unfortunately I feel Israel will be the result in a war not unlike WW2, again because of religion and hatred.

I think allot of the dis-like towards jews (note I didn't say hatred as that is too strong a word) is due to the way the Jews used to act over the years (and maybe still do).

Obviously they are not all the same, but the majority think they are Gods 'chosen people' - hence rank themselves above us 'mere humans'. Just look at how they treat Gentiles (non-jews) - they ply them with Usury (look who owns the majority of the banks), yet forbid it for their own kind. Also take a look at who runs most of the media with its lies and heavy bias towards jews and Israel.

Most of this stems from the fact they were oppressed people (look into the times of when they were in Egypt and were saved from Pharoahs tyranny) - but they were ungrateful, killed those who were sent to help them (Think, Jesus), caused disruption in the lands they went to etc etc.

And ironically enough they are now doing the oppressing themselves (i.e. Israel / Palestine)

If you want to learn more about Israel and why the Arab states don't like it - google Balfour Treaty (don't read it from wikipedia as that is one heavily biased site towards Israel).

if all your thinking about is football - think about why Israel is allowed to play in FIFA, whilst the palestinian team are not allowed out of the country (due to the israel concentration camp) - Hardly fair no? Then you ask why the arabs don't like them lol.......

Indeed, I spent most of 2007 travelling to Israel, the people I met there hated the way their govt treated palestinians but were also fearful of the the extremists which the govt behaviour perpetuated.

I had one visit spending 3 hours in the airport being strip searched because I had a new passport. They really have no clue about winning friends, that is for certain.

Israel served its purpose as a counter to surrounding countries under the influence of the USSR. In the future, they'll need to find away to come to an accommodation with its neighbours because their military isn't going to be bankrolled by the US for ever.

Am I missing something?. They seem to be fairly silent during play..

You are missing how they make distracting loud noises when the russian player is about to hit the balls and keep silent when the israilie is about to hit the ball.

Also all the booing and whisling while the russian is about to serve, all to distract her.

Really isralie girl should have had points deducted many times over.
