It's new car time. Spec me!

Welll.... haters gonna hate. BUT I think I have done the right thing. Nath, you are possibly right but the MINI is getting on a bit

Your 2004/54 plate Mini is getting on a bit, so you replace it with.... a 2003 Volvo?!

It's a 2003 Volvo S60 2.0T. Full Leather Electric Seats (With heater!) Cruise Control, Climate Control, 5CDC, 61k on the clock with 1 owner and FSH. For a princely sum of £2,900. I even get a Cheque for £900 back on my MINI :)

So £3800 for the Mini?

Trade book on a '54 Cooper S on 65k miles seems to be over £5k?

Completely strange and illogical purchase is completely strange and illogical.

With a lot less milage on.. and book price is on a good example. Mine had a damaged wing mirror along with 86k on the Clock. So I think that's a fair price.

I don't think it's an illogical purchase. I wanted something bigger, which I got. I wanted something with poke, again which I got. OK the Volvo stigma is there but in all I think it's a tidy and a well looked after car.

Is a wing mirror that expensive then? :o

Won't you end up back in a MINI, like last time?

Or do I have the wrong person?

Edit - Hang on, the 'new' car is older? I am confused, I thought you wanted something newer?

No, its the same person. Every car he buys ends up being either hugely overpriced or something, the thread grows to 5 pages and he says he'll get advice next time. Then he rushes out and buys something else on impulse at a lolprice. It's the same story each time :p

Buuuut this car isn't over priced?

Second, i've actually kept my current car for 3 years. And also that particular story happened once (Not lots like you are implying Fox.) When I had the Focus and went straight back to the MINI.

Not only have I taken the time to actually view this car properly, test drive it throughly and make sure that i'm happy with it and not just impulsed it (Again I did this when I had the Cooper S)

Is it so strange to want to have something bigger now that I live out on my own? I don't think so.

20k is not 'a lot less mileage' :p

It's quite a bit, a third more - I know I'd not like a third more miles on my car if I didn't have to.

Besides that the 'public' perception is that it's only 1 years motoring away from the magical 100k.

Did you test any of the car suggested in the thread, West?

I tried the Vectra I was looking at and it was terrible.

I've driven both the Skoda and Mondeo (Through work I might add) as we use them as RRVs, but I couldn't find one I wanted in the price range (Which was reduced slightly from what I said initially) I didn't want a sack of knackers.

Civics, I just don't like.

So yes, in a way I have.

Its the same engine as in the VXR.

Can take up to the same 280bhp of the VXR without issues :) But Auto only on a car like that is a strange choice.

i've come to the descision that I need something I can actually fit my weekly shop into now that i've moved out.

I fit 3 big lads (including me) into my k11 Micra for the Tesco shop.
The worst I had had is me, brother, dad (all well over 6 foot and not skinny), mum, dog and a real Christmas tree down the centre of the Micra.

If you are trying to justify buying a bigger car, then this is not it :p.

He changed his mind, he wanted a new car because his old one was getting on a bit. So he got an older one...

Oh, makes sense when you put it like that

Dare I say that Fox is being a troll? If I dare have a thread in motors he always finds reason to pick.

By getting on a bit is I mean mechanically and mileage.. OLder car it is yes, but it's what I want. Can't say anything more than that.

Of course, I'm being a troll for pointing out the amusement value of somebody saying they bought a new car because the old one was 'getting on a bit' only to purchase a car thats older and only has 20k less miles on it.

Don't get me wrong, I like the S60, I think its a great car, but the reasons you've cited for changing it make no sense and it doesnt sound like it was a particularly awesome deal.

That doesn't make me a troll for pointing this out.
