Recived this new body this morning, only had a quick play but straight away coming from a 400D it feels so much better to handle. It suits me much better as ive got large hands.

The setup on it is quite abit differant and will take abit of getting used to that for sure. Only slight problem seems to be that there is abit of dust in the viewfinder, can anyone offer advice on this?

Paid £370 delivered for it...

Canon EOS 40D
4 batteries
C30DP battery grip with a digital display and timer functions
and a cartridge for 6 AA batteries
Lexar 1GB 80x speed CF card
CB-5L Battery charger
Canon Leads and CDs

I've been after one of these forever. Every time I save up enough cash something comes along that's more important and cleans me out!

Enjoy fella.

I have several specs of dust in my viewfinder, it's on the glass on the ceiling of the lens chamber. You can clean it off using a pecpad and sensor cleaning fluid but be sure not to touch/move the mirror as it can get damaged.

The dust won't show up on images though so can be left well alone really.

Enjoy the 40D. I've had 2 over the past 5 years and it's a superb camera. The rated 6.4fps is very conservative. Do a test and you will likely get 7.8fps with a fast CF Card :p

And high ISO noise control isn't bad either considering when it was released.

I think your grip sounds the same as mine, I paid £45~ for it and it's branded Mieke, pretty good grip and pretty tough in build. Doesn't seem any different to the original Canon one that costs 3x more!

Yup.

I don't think it matters though really, the LCD on those Casio watches stay on 24/7 as well and they last years :p

Cheers mrk. Do you know what all the buttons mean on the grip? As I got my gear second hand I dint get a manual for it and I think it's probably originally from Hong Kong or China and I can't find out much via a google search.

The manual is pretty straight forward really, here's one version online:
