Just thought I'd finally play Uncharted 2...

I finally got around to starting and finishing Uncharted 1 this weekend, overall it was enjoyable and I wish I'd played it sooner and now it's left me wanting more.

So fast forward to today, I insert the Uncharted 2 disc to get cracking on with it and I am greeted by a screen telling me I must install a patch before allowing me to play, fair enough it should only take a couple of minutes at most... Wrong! I'm sat here 30 minutes later while it's downloading patch number 5 out of 9! It's not a problem for most people on faster connections, but I get at most a 4-5Mb sync being 3,5km from the exchange and the worst part is that PSN is only using about half of my available bandwidth.

It's not the end of the world, but I just don't get why I must download 9 patches before I can play a game that should have been fully playable at launch otherwise it wouldn't have been put on sale. I know the patches are for the MP, but surely it would have been better to download the patches when actually trying to play MP? I have zero interest in the MP so to me it's just been a complete waste of my time.

You could have disconnected your internet connection and it would have played out the box.

Obviously, but I thought it would only be a single 20mb patch so I went to make a phone call while it did it's thing thinking it would only be 5 minutes, I came back 15 minutes later and it's still going so there was no point in stopping it.

Youve waited nearly 2 years to play it - Im sure an hour longer isnt going to hurt...

Make me a cuppa if youre bored :)

Hes just lucky I didnt suggest to move house 4Mb/s in 2011 :p

Patches are annoying pain, but usually theres a reason why they are implemented...

PSN is shocking sometimes when it comes to downloading and installing patches for games. Something they need to fix for the PS4.
*edit*
On the plus side - by the time the patches have downloaded Uncharted 3 will be out.

Already sorted it, I'm just waiting for an Open reach engineer visit to switch me over from one green cabinet to the other so then I'll have 40Mb/10Mb.

I don't have a problem with patches I just don't see the need for 9 seperate ones, but I guess it's just the way PSN updates.

Probably :p

You don't HAVE to install the patches unless you wanna go online. You just press O to skip it. You don't even have to install all the patches at once if there's multiples... just cancel when you've had enough of waiting and resume them later, they'll take up from the last completed patch.

one of the things i hate about the PS3 is the slowness of PSN and then having to update games i have just downloaded.

that's not really solving the problem, just putting it off though.
