Thinking of switching over to the slim PS3 and just wanted to know how do I go about uninstalling games which have limited installations, and also whats the best way to go about backing up save games?

Just buy a x-over ethernet cable and transfer everything across in one go, after completion it formats the original PS3 and deactivates it so you get your downloads back.

Moving the saves is a good way to do it, with a full back up it takes ages and some USB drives don't mount properly when you go to restore it.

Am I right in saying that if you have psn plus you can get all your saves from there?

I dont know that ALL saves are stored on the plus account. You might want to check that they are saved there before you go any further.

When I upgraded from a 60GB HDD to a 320GB HDD (so basically the same thing as going from Phat to Slim) - I got an external USB drive and did a complete back up, then restored that after changing the HDD and the PS3 was exactly the same as before the swap.

Regarding file transfers. As far as I know the device you use has to be formatted as FAT32 as the PS3 can't detect NTFS.

Most save files aren't copy protected so you can just copy them manually if you don't want to do a full backup. Some save files which are copy protected can only be moved over to a new system if you do the full backup option with the PS3 and some just won't let you do anything with them at all.

Your PS3 ID can be on upto 5 PS3's I think, but make sure you deactivate it, as Sony can be a bit difficult about them doing it for you afterwards.
