Hi, Looking for a new TV for my Dad, Need some ideas as I haven't purchased a TV since my 46" Samsung. That was 4 years ago.

Will be used mainly as a TV believe it or not with Freeveiw. And Watching Films via Blu ray and DVD. No gaming!

What is a good choice these days? Budget £500 - £600 Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Sorry didn't see the budget lol, the LG 46" LCD's would be ideal for that price range. Currys have some decent offers at the moment on those tv's.

Sorry just update my OP maximum Budget is around £600 is that possible for a good 46" ?

Well you can get a good tv for 46", you might have to look around a few places for promotional offers to grab a bargain. I was at the SONY centre in Brent Cross last week and they had a sony 46" HDTV with freeview hd for £600 (Reduced from £1100).

My best advice would be to go around to a few electrical stores and have a look yourself; the best way to decide what tv you want within your budget is to see the actual unit itself :)

I did see these advertised recently, Whats are the Plus sides of having a plasma over LCD?

There are pro's and con's to each.

It depends on what you're using it for. Off the top of my head a plus side of a Plasma can be better blacks and a sharper picture but they can suffer from image retention.

I'm probably going to head down the plasma route (Samsung D6900) but want to do a bit more reading up on plasma and also the set.

LED is catching up on plasma from what I've read though I've heard that plasma comes out on top for 3D viewing.

*may be incorrect, plasma n00b*

It's going to be used go general Free-view which as someone stated in a previous post "free-view HD" is imminent. No gameplay but DVD's + Blu Ray films will be watched.

I saw this earlier, seemed like a good deal to me.

Panasonic TX-P50U30B 50-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p 600Hz Plasma TV with Freeview HD £584
