Got a 2003 Focus RS in stock, CBA to register on a Ford forum...

Clutch slips on boost but catches back up if that makes any sense, oe clutch is horrendously expensive, any decent alternatives?

Someone told me they all slip, surely that's not right?

Im pretty sure that if every single clutch slipped that was fitted to a Mk1 Focus RS then Ford would have recalled them all.

That's rubbish plain and simple.

How much is the OE clutch?

EDIT: Seems £400 for a clutch kit which is sort of what I'd expect for that power.

Try 'Techniclutch' or Euro Car Parts.

I'm sure a Sachs or LUK replacement would be good enough for a standard car

Best place to ask would be Passionford.com!

Myself I wouldn't touch Techniclutch with a barge pole, if one is available from the likes of AP Racing or Alcon that would be my choice, or Helix at a push...

No clutch for this car will be cheap and they will lead a hard life, may as well uprate a little as they will all be expensive, but a good one shouldn't be too much more. I guess your labour is cheap as well Maz!

The 200mm clutches on the 1985 S1 RS turbo where to small
and ford changed to 220mm clutches on the later 1986 S2 RS turbos

So it would surprise me if ford fitted an under size or to weak a clutch in the MK1 Focus RS ;)

Exactly. A car like that needs a 'performance' clutch to get the power down and not drop to bits in two weeks, if you don't want OEM, then you will have to join a performance Ford group to see what your options are. If you fit a cheap brown box clutch, its likely the car will rip it to bits in no time.

Other things also come into play though, on some performance fords the drive shafts can't cope with the torque, hence torque being limited by the ECU In 1st and second gears.

Labour will be cheap, but still £400 for a clutch is very steep!

Ah well, ECP will send me one with release bearing for £377+VAT AP Racing one.

Job done :(

At least it has a better OE clutch than my vectra did.

I sourced a Genuine GM one from Euro Car Parts for about £150, with about another £50 on top of that for a new release bearing.

So half the price of the RS one, but also half the quality too lol.

Don't go near "Techniclutch". They are a bunch of shysters that take cheap pattern clutches, paint the cover red and then sell as a performance item.

The 220mm one was too feeble too, although my "Stage 1" 175BHP re-map probably did not help..... :D

AP racing clutch as standard.

I paid a bit extra and whent for the AP organic clutch so it can take the extra power :)
