Just arrived at Cribbs Causeway for a quick drink - showing 39.7mpg since Plymouth, average speed 65.3mph :D

I'd rather drive a 3 litre petrol at the speed limit than a 2.0 diesel at 85 ;)

I really do not understand how you do it!

i cant understand the price of fuel at my local Supermarket:
Petrol is 134.7 (yes thats a seven!)
Deisel is 135.7

Why so close and did someone run off with the .9 numbers?

Still ive had the use of my GF's 1.4 puma for work this week and its showing a respectable 50mpg, not bad saving from 18.1mpg on my normal car. Doing 50+ miles a day means im saving lots but back to bust next week.

With this thread in mind, I reset my trip recorder yesterday morning in London. I'm in Liverpool now having been upto Goole and done a few"local" Tesco deliverys in & around West Yorkshire yesterday afternoon. Load of Coke (the drink) from Wakefield to Knowsley this morning, pulling weight pretty much constantly.

Not bad for a proper truck. ;)

Do you get rewarded for achieving better fuel economy at all? Would be worth their while rewarding incentives for you guys to drive as gently as possible i would imagine? :)

Yes, we get whats known as a "Driving standard bonus" - £3.50 per day, going upto £5 per day after our recent pay agreement.

In a nutshell, keep the engine in its "Green zone" on the tachometer, no harsh braking and using cruise control as much as possible.

I achieve this bonus most days, its not that hard to fit into the parameters, I'm quite sure the fuel / wear & tear savings are a lot more than £5 per day....

Thankfully, we are not judged on overall economy as guys pulling loads of toilet paper would constantly be getting 10MPG+ whilst me hauling pallets of drinks etc about would be doing well to get the circa 8.5 mpg that I currently average.

I'm getting 37MPG out of a 97 mile motorway cruise at 70mph. If I drive carefully my car's tank will last 410 miles.

A bit of an update on my original complaint:
I've been doing a few investigations, driving more carefully and not in a rush. By doing 65mph instead of 70mph I get a 500 - 525 mile range, compared to the 410 miles I had originally.

If anyone wants to save a few quid on fuel you can buy Tesco vouchers off Ebay for next to nothing and use three with every fill up - 15p off a litre is over 10% off. I bought 12 for under a fiver and will make around a £45 saving. Tends to be the cheapest place for fuel and I usually treat myself to Momentum 99 :)

Getting 32mpg out my Xsara VTS in mixed driving since fitting a decat and Kumho KU31's all round. Quite impressed with that to be honest, certainly not worth me spending thousands on replacing it with something cheaper to run as its cost me nothing in repairs or depreciation.

It is only something new as you didn't used to be able to, just zoomed into an image of the vouchers on ebay and read the Terms and Conditions

Where does it say you can use 3 of the vouchers at once? I had no idea you could do this..

IIRC it was stated on there advert for it.

Something like £50+ spent on shopping = 5p off at the pumps

Buy 2 lynx = 5p off at the pump

2 Robinsons 1.5L = 5p off at the pump

Get all these deals to get 15p off per litre at the pumps

Says it on the back of the voucher. Can get a pic if you'd like.

When i read that this weekend i was searching around for receipts and vouchers. Shame the closest tesco petrol to me is miles away and isn't worth it.

Brings normal unleaded down go 115.9 here it's an easy way to save a few quid. Hoping there's another run of vouchers when the current batch expire in september.

It used to be one voucher per fill up but certainly the last month or so ive used threw each time with no problems.

Drive to the motorway, accelerate to 70mph indicated in 5th gear. Then put the cruise control on and sit there until the figure gradually climbs.

Facts At A Glance
CAR: Daimler Super Eight
CO2 EMISSIONS: 299g/km
PERFORMANCE: 0-60mph 5.0s / Max Speed 155mph
FUEL CONSUMPTION: (urban) 15.2mpg / (extra urban) 31.4mpg / (combined) 23mpg

That is my Dads car, and when I've driven that on a long journey at a constant 65mph and I got only 25~

I thought I'd be able to achieve the extra urban figure, but still 20% down on the achievable.
