what IS this spider?!

my mother was pruning in the garden and called me to look at this spider, i have never seen anything like it!

It has such a bulbous body - perhaps it is pregnant?

It looks rather exotic as i have never seen a red/orange spider in europe

anyway, have a look at the images (please note, i didnt have time to swap to my macro lens

)

What happens is the daddy spider gives the mummy spider a special kiss and then baby spiders grow in the mummy spider's tummy. Hundreds of them. And they like nothing better than waiting until humans are asleep and then crawling all over your face and hair and bed and stuff and more stuff and then laying their eggs inside you so that more baby spiders grow inside you and then they eat their way out of you.

I'm no biolotician, but I'm 99% sure that's how it works.

they do lay eggs, but the eggs first start out in that sack at the back and then the spider lays them - or so i believe

Indeed. I think it might be an Orb spider. They can be other colours such as green, silver / grey etc.
