Asus GeForce GTX 580 Matrix Platinum + 650Watt??

650W is enough but not all 650W PSU's are the same.

What is the make and model of the PSU?

The Asus GeForce GTX 580 Matrix Platinum requires two 8 pin PCI-E power connectors. Unless your PSU has these you're going to have to use various adapters to make the necessary connections.

not with all that, sell the 650 and get a 750 or 800 to be safe :)

Unlikely. My system (in sig) only draws 530W with everything OCd and running both furmark and prime. 580s aren't any more power hungry than a 480. If it's a decent 650w PSU you should be fine.

Is that the TPG-650M with 4 red and 4 black connectors for modular cables?

If that's the one then according to the specification the PSU has two 8 pin and two 6 pin PCI-E power connectors and a 52A (624W) 12V power rail.

Two 8 pin connectors and a good 12V supply are what you need so it looks like you're good to go.

Yeah thats the one! So its good?

It's good.

The downside is that the graphics card is 3 slots wide so with it fitted the only slot left free on the motherboard will be the x4 PCI-E slot at the bottom.

The second x16 PCI-E slot will be blocked.

Not planning on doing SLI. What other card would you recommend for under £400? Building a new gaming rig for the upcoming BF3.

If you're looking at ~£400 for a single GPU then you're in GTX 580 territory.

Probably the best bang for buck at £400 would be a pair of HD 6950's in Crossfire but on a motherboard the size of yours the cards would sit right next to each other and would get a little toasty.

There's a review of the Asus GeForce GTX 580 Matrix Platinum here.

It's an OK review but they weren't stunned by the card.

These type of cards with the fancy coolers tend to blow as much hot air into the case as out of it. I don't know what your setup is but if you have a smallish case perhaps something based on the reference design might be more appropriate as they blow the hot air out of the back of the case.

If you game at high resolutions (2560x1600 or 2560x1440) then it might be worth considering a 3GB card.

There are various GTX 580's at OcUK that use the stock cooler or aftermarket cooler, that are 2, 2½ or 3 slots wide, 1.5GB or 3GB of VRAM etc.

Look at your setup, the size of your case, what cooling you have, what resolution you game at and try to pick an appropriate card.

You'll likely find reviews of a lot of the cards if you do a bit of Googling.

Sorry to be a bit vague but I'm not really comfortable saying go out and spend £400 of your hard earned on product X.

If you decide you're interested in a particular card then you can always come back and someone will give you an opinion on it.
