What you think about Israel?

Is pwned even a word. Are you saying the Eire is not Ireland, and that because I refer to it as such I am a daft racist...

grow up.

I am saying that the term Eire (correctly Éire) is viewed in Ireland as pejorative when used in the English language.

Pwned isn't a real word but I would expect most posters on these forums to be familiar with it.

This link might help.

Well the official name of the country is just Ireland (or Éire in Irish).

Yet that doesn't explain why I am a racist or stupid as I was correct to begin with. There is no reason why I cannot refer to a country, or the Island itself for that matter by it's native name.

But I am not in Ireland and Eire is an accepted, albeit rare usage when referring to the ROI in Britain, you see it for example in Airports.

It is not seen as a pejorative by the vast majority of Irish people, my Wife certainly doesn't see it that way and it is only language purists that would make the distinction, besides which my keyboard would not support the Irish spelling anyway and neither was it necessary as the accepted spelling in British English is Eire.

It's tricky times for Israel at the moment. Relationship with Egypt and Turkey is pretty bad right now, Palmer report is out Friday which by most accounts is going to vindicate Israel is only going to stoke the fire. Palestinians are pushing hard for international recognition and are making progress, might see them in Brazil 2014 zomg.

On above, as someone from 'Eire' I can tell you it's one of those words you see quite often but never hear cause it's from a dead language.... seeing it in a post is odd not offensive

Do you have a verifiable source for your claim that it isn't seen as pejorative by the vast majority of Irish people?

Just so you know as well Eire means "burden" in Irish, it is a different word.

;)

I don't think Israel's creation was very well thought through. How would any of us like it if our home countries were suddenly divided into partitions to welcome a new group of people that happens to not be on the best of terms with you as it is.
Although either side could be argued as to who started the aggression I like to think that the expansionist attitude of the zionists at the time did not help the situation. The arabs were already angry about Palestine being partitioned and the last thing they needed was over aggressive neighboors bent on scaring them out of their country, which just escalated the violence between both sides.
I'm not saying that the Jewish people don't deserve a state of their own, but how stupid were the British Government of the time to stick their foot in the door and impose the idea of a partition on Palestine. Everything went downhill from there and even the UN were useless in trying to control the situation.
Whilst the situation about who should own the holy land is just a meaningless conflict (but thats a whole other arguement), I really think it was foreign intervention that screwed that part of the world over and now they have to pay for it in conflict. Too add to that, now the US is binding into this S^@& storm due to their investments in the Israeli army and appeasment of the American Jewish population for political power.
I just think the whole thing could have been dealt with in a more peaceful manner if world powers weren't so obbsesed with bossing other countries around and trying to play the macho game with the USSR.
I hope Israel loses its financial and thus military advantage, not because the Jewish/Arab population deserve it, but it will be interesting to see what the reaction of neighboring countries will be, since another harsh conflict in the area is almost innevitable in my opinion
