Just a quick post, can anyone reccomend a good budget digital camera circa £50? Nothing fancy, my dad just wants to take it on holiday to shoot basic photos.

Thanks guys :)

I suspect no one is answering as it's hard to get something good for £50! Try and spend £100 and get a known brand... Canon ixus maybe. I found the SONY Cybershots to be nice some time back if they're still about.

For 50 quid your not gonna get anything above basic and poor quality brand new I'm afraid. The only remote chance of a bargain at that price would be going to your local electrical store and asking what clearance items they have, as you can get some heavy discounts on ex display models ect.

Budget £100 (ish) and buy the best IXUS you can. Thats the advice I give ervyone who asks me a question like this and nobody has ever come back and said they get a lemon.

I'd back that up, the simplest good advice for compact cameras is still 'buy the best Canon you can afford'. That's not to say panasonic and others don't have good options in some market segments but Canon are pretty good across the board.
